this might be a dumb question for some, and I have had a look around the forum, but cant seem to locate an answer.

what i would like to do is backup my DVD's to MPEG's to use rather than the origional. (have a few movies on each DVD)

I have looked at a few software items to vonvert them, but there are several .VOB files. (i know i can use DVD shrink to rip just the main movie, but it is still several .VOB files)

wouldnt that give me several .MPEG files rather than just 1 .MPEG?

all i want to do is get the mail movie down to arounf 700 -800 meg, depending on length of movie.

heres what dvdfab platinum list it will do, will this not work for you?

Convert DVD title to MPEG-4/DivX/XVID/H.264 AVI/MP4 file, which can be played on PC

ahhh ok, where it said 'DVD to Mobile' i was thinking of how some people watch a movie in their phone.

so giving it a tryout now, so hope it works :) though i want to be able to watch it in the lounge, not on the computer. (yes, my DVD can play .MPEG's and .AVI's)

you can transfer to MPEG-4/DivX/XVID/H.264 AVI/MP4 file then burn to DVD and watch it on a dvd player that supports playing thoses kind of files

ok, thanks ZoSoIV, going through the prosess now.
i selected the 2 pass method as it says this is better quality, though takes a lot longer.
can you tell me if it makes a lot of diferance, or is it just wasting time?

depends on how much compression the files needs?

the more compression i would use more passes

and depends on what your playing it back on/ watching it on. a 31" CRT going to look alot better/different than a Sony SXRD 60" on high compressed files
