Hello,
I have been trying to find info on how to clone or build a mod chip[ps2 or xbox] from scratch, and i cannot find any info. I know i can by a chip for cheap(probably cheaper than i build one)BUT i still want to build one.
Does anyone know a site or any thing that i can find this info on how to do this.
Thanks in advance.
Here are some some necessary things you must know before you even think about doing anything that involves digital electronics.
1. Concepts of analog electronics. You don't really have to get into detail on this one. You just have to know about the relationship between power, voltage, current, and resistance (to wire up the circuits without fring the components); also you should learn about transistors (capacitors and stuff about inductance can be useful later).
2. Concepts of digital electronics. Flip-flops, logic gates, Boolean Algebra, etc. YOU MUST absolutely know this. Modchips are simpler than you can imagine. I've seen an xboxmodchip with just a microcontroller and a couple of resistors so it doesn't get fried. Piece of cake. But that's only until it come to
3. Programming. That's just about as important as #2. You can't just solder a bunch of chips together and expect them to figure out what to do for you. You got to give them specific instructions and that, my friend, is done using assembly language. Hardest programming language in the wolrd. Nah, I'm just kidding. Machine language is the hardest.
And I think that's about it. I have a pretty good understanding on the concepts of electronics. Assembly language didn't come so smooth. If you'd like I could help you with your creation. If not, here are some refrences to get you off started:
1. Complete Digital Design - A Comprehensive Guide To Digital Electronic and Computer System Architecture
Produced by Mcgraw Hill
$65.00 (Oh yeah, knowledge is expensive these days)
The rest is up to you. I can quickly brush you up on some concepts (only those that I know) and perhaps you could help me out, because I too want to build a modchip for my ps2. If softmod's were available i wouldn't bother.
wow i finally got an answer lol
this is the first time ive logged on to afterdawn since that post '
but when i wrote that post i was un aware that mod chips were illegal in the united states. so as soon as i found that out i was afraid to look into it any more[since people have been getting raided.]
i dont want the feds coming to my house over a video game console, so sorry i cant help you make a chip.(i guess is a good thing i dont know any thing about programming chips or how the videogame consoles work)
i forgot to mention thanks for the info
i might look into the stuff for future projects (not video game modding or any thing illegal just fun electronic projects)
and its neat that you have seen homebrew modchips i would not thought some so simple(except for the programming) would work
It's not like if you install a modchip on your console the feds will immediately knock on your door. It's really only for the people that advertise everywhere and are well-known.
You do not have to worry about anything as long as you keep it low.
