Home VHS to DVD Sony Combo Recorder problems

I am trying to copy my old VHS tapes to DVD using a Sony dvd/vhs combo player/recorder. rdr-vx515.

It was able to do most of my home VHS tapes except my old black and white outer limit series tapes I purchased years ago.

Well my Sony RDR-VX515 is telling me they are copywrite protected?

I saw that message one time when I took my Camcorder Home Movie and recorded it into that sony RDR-VX515 and when I tried to dub it to DVD I was getting that same stupid message.

Now those Home movies were not copy write protected but for some reason the Sony recorder sensed that it was?

Could you direct me to a Good tutorial or site that sells region and code free DVD/VHS recorders.

I googled searched and found a few places but not sure how reputable they are and thats why I am posting here since many people have probably already have gone through trial and error with different brands and vendors that sell them.

I am not asking for advice on copying rented copies just movies I have purchased that are on VHS.

I can't see the point in buying the DVD's when I already purchased the tapes.

The Region code issue (which is on commercial DVD's) to one side - I use a Panasonic DVD recorder to backup tapes from a separate tape player.

The copyright notice you are seeing is either the result of 'Macrovision' protection on a commercial tape (and not all commercial tapes have this protection) or the recorder is interpreting a poor signal as being protection.
A quality DVD recorder might not have a problem with the home movies, but will almost certainly honour the Macrovision on a commercial tape.
Note that fast forwarding and rewinding the tape before backup helps to re-tension the tape, which improves playback consistency.

For protected tapes, I use an old 'Video Stabilizer' that was used when tape copying was popular.
They can still be found and can be legally purchased on the web.

This is an example of the type (the discontinued model is the one I purchased from Radio Shack many years past).
