I have been burning 360 games for over a year with the same burner using IMGBurn with no problems. Last week I had a major PC problem and had to reinstall windows. Since then I have burnt 5 discs and can't get any of them to work. They either don't boot up or the latest one said 'Mixed Media Disc'.
I have checked the layer break is still set and everything but can't think what has happened.
Could be firmware but not likely, could be your burner not set to DMA mode in the system management, could be that your missing some drivers or Windows updates that you previously had.
It really could be so many things it is hard to narrow it down, you just have to keep doing things one by one until you get it.
I had the exact same thing happen to me after a format and install of Windows. Everything was fine before and i could not get anything to burn right after.
I just did all of my windows updates to catch up (which takes about a week), then made sure my burner was set to DMA mode, and installed all of the programs back on that i had before and still wanted.
And it all seemed to just work itself out.
Now the only reason i say that firmware for the burner is not likely to be the issue is because firmware is stored on the device, not on the harddrive. So reinstalling Windows should have zero effect at all on what firmware your burner had, it will be the same one it had before.
@steimy good conclusion. i wasnt thinking when i said FW. the drive should not have been affected. plausible but not probable. i should be on mythbusters. :)
for DMA mode just look in the system management.
start-control panel-system-hardware tab-device manager button-click on the plus sign beside IDE/ATA controllers
right click on both primary and secondary IDE controller and select properties, then go the the advanced tab and look at transfer mode and see what it is set to.
