Use ImgBurn.

http://imgburn.com

As far as blank media goes. Stick with Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony. Use the +R format and booktype to DVD-ROM for the best compatibility with standalones.

Welcome to aD!

Play that dash backup on your pc,and use the dvd-rw drive that burned it,to play it. Make sure it plays and the quality should be near original.Test it in other players as well and see how they react to it.

If it is playable on the pc,you have a compatability issue with your player. There's something with that dash format that your player doesn't like:

1) Media: It may be on the low quality side.It may have been burned too fast. Use quality media like taiyo yuden and verbatim. Beware of most other brand names with the exception of sony. If same occurs with quality media, switch to plus format and burn half the rated speed of the blank media.Booktype them if possible.Even certain MID coded media can give a picky player fits.

2) Sticker labels: They'll definitely give stand alone player fits.Beware of them. Peel one off and play to see if that's the culprit. There's a lot more effective labeling systems now.

3) Burn engine: Some picky players can tell a difference between burn engines. Try another like ImgBurn like 7thsinger posted..

4) Dvd-rw Drive: Not all drives are alike. Some prefer a certain format. Some are booktypers and yield highly compatable backups. There's some crappy drives out there as well. Some drives may need their firmware updated to the latest version to help control their writing strategy.

What's the brand name, model#,and current firmware version of your dvd-rw drive? Nero infotool will tell you.

There's a slew of other culprits, but I listed the most common.
