I have several copied DVD movies that I copied. They played on my DVD player for us to watch and now they won't play a second time. I'm playing them on the same DVD player. Help!

Do they play on the PC?
If your movies were burned on quality media (like Verbatim) at a moderate speed (4x) then they should still play on the standalone.
If they were burned at maximum speed on media whose quality can vary from batch to batch (Memorex, Ritek) then it can happen that they will fail.

Sometimes a disk will play on the original burner, so you can copy it to a new disk.

They were burned at 16X. We actually watched the movies on our DVD player after recording, now they won't play on the player or the computer. I really couldn't tell you brand of disc I used for these, but I usually use Office Depot. I never by Memorex (I've had trouble with them.) Do you recommend recording at slower speeds?

Try burning again with your current media, but cut the speed back to 4x maximum.
You can try non playing disks in another PC - they might be copyable.

As attar stated, burn slower (1/2 of disc rated speed).hat may have occurred in your case was that at the high rate of the burn, you may not have gotten a full permanent conversion of the dye gel to the permanent irreversible matrix. After playing in the dvd player, the reading laser in the dvd player may have corrupted the not fully converted dye gel to the permanent irreversible phase. Hence your recorded biscs are now ruined. Also second possibility is that your burner may be on it's last legs.

Thanks everyone who replied to me. One last question. I have a bunch of 16X blank DVD's. Can I record them at a slower speed? Probably a dumb question, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Yes you can record at a slower speed (the catch is that the recording program must allow you to do this) My favorite burn speed is 4x

I like Imgburn. This proggie allows user speed selection. Free from

www.imgburn.com

and here's a guide

BTW, not a Dumb question. Only dumb not to ask !!

I've changed the speeds on all my recording programs, but I can't figure out how to change the recording speed on DVD Shrink.

Use dvd shrink to create an iso (Target)
Then use Imgburn to burn (most stable and versitile burning engine out there, IMHO)

If, when you click 'Backup' and the 'Target Device' is to burn with Nero, then click the 'Burn Setting' tab and pick the burning speed (else it defaults to the highest speed) - you must have a blank in the drive at this point.

A better way, is as suggested by iluvendo - exit DVD Shrink and use 'IMGBurn' for the burning step and select the speed there..
