Apparently if you install the Homebrew Channel WAD, you might suffer the consequences of getting bricked.

Is there any way to avoid this completely?

Breaking something is always a possability when hacking and modding consoles.

The best way to avoid bricking is to stay away from this filth. Is it really worth even a 0.5% chance of bricking your wii for the crapware you MAY be able to run off of homebrew?
