Good evening.

I have been reading the posts on this website for awhile now. The posts helped me to discover DVD Shrink, HD Feb Decrypter, and IMG Burn (thank you very much). Recently, I decided to try FixVTS because of the various positive reviews that I have read about the program.

Well.....

90% of the time, I use DVD Shrink to rip a DVD (which is a DVD that I own and intend to keep the copy in my local bank's vault incase there is a fire or flood that will ruin my DVD collection at home) and then use IMG Burn to burn it onto a blank disk. Sometimes I need to shrink the DVD file, sometimes I don't (depending on how cheap I am and don't dish out the extra bucks for the DL disks). Ocassionally I have to use DVD Fab to rip, then run it through Shrink (to shrink) then IMG Burn (I think you get the picture).

Well....

I used Shrink to rip American Gangster (full disk; no shrinking of files involved) and then I ran the files through FixVTS. For the heck of it, I ran the files through Shrink again and I noticed that now the option of just copying the main movie is no longer available. Also, most of the file is located under "Unreferenced Materials".

My question to someone (and thank you for staying with me) is this:

Will I have a problem burning this movie with IMG Burn onto a Double Layer disk?? Will it screw up what menus are attached to the various parts of the movie, etc..??

Thank you for your attention to this matter and any response would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you for such a quick response....

I have been using IMG Burn pretty much exclusivley now and I find it to be one of the best, if not the best....

Any idea why the file reads like that in Shrink???

dvdfab does not give clean rips and that is why I use fixvts after fab ( the purpose of fixvts is to clean up the misdirection of dvd pointer - cues that a dvd player needs to understand the menu- structure of a dvd - kinda like directions to your house) If the directional pointers are off, the menu faulters. Fixvts helps in this area.Dvd shrink has not been updated in 3 years and hence may be fooled by newer encryption systems. This is how I back up my dvds

1)rip with either dvdfab or Anydvd and Ripit4me
2) fixvts
3) vob blanker (to remove the objectionables)
4) dvd shrink output to iso
5) burn with imgburn
6) enjoy

Excuse my newness but, when you say to have the output on Shrink as ISO what does that do....

I usually have the Target Device set as Hard Drive.....

Does it make a difference if I have it set to ISO image??

Good morning, I am new here although I have read many posts before for help on backing up my previously purchased DVDs.

I have always used AnyDVD > DVDShrink > Nero to back up my disks and up until recently, I hadn't had many problems.

However, I want to know if there is a way to make back ups using Windows Vista. My XP computer is very old and slow, and it takes me at least 4 hours to make a copy, sometimes I get errors and have to start over again.

I have read a lot of good things about DVDFab, FixVTS, RipIt4Me, etc., but I don't know exactly which apps are still good and what exactly they do.

I see Iluvendo posted his 5 steps but I was curious to see if there are any special settings I need to check (better yet, is there a guide with those same apps) before trying his method? I'm pretty decent, but not an expert with computers.

By the way, I hope all these apps are freeware :)

Many thanks in advance, EffinNoob

Indeed, EffinNoob - plus threads about Vista are (far too) commonly posted here so there's plenty of info here for the searching..

My apologies, I really am a noob when it comes to forums. I realized it a little too late, and I hadn't found the 'burning with vista' threads when I posted, otherwise I wouldn't have done it. Thanks.

I was wondering about using FixVTS in conjunction with Ripit4me and Shrink. I have gotten Ripit4me and DVD Decryptor and Shrink to all work together seamlessly but I can't get Ripit4me to recognize FixVTS. Without it recognizing FixVTS I think I am missing the step to clean up the files b/c Ripit4me just goes directly from the ripping to the shrinking. I hope this is understandable I am new to this whole thing and Im slowly learning so please bare with me. Essentially I can't get Fixit4me to come up in the path to programs part of the preferences page for Ripit4me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
