Im having trouble with installing a fresh version of XP. My computer was acting slow, so I wanted to make everything fresh. Can someone please tell me why when Im getting to the boot screen, why my computer automatically shuts down?
I select all the options I need and after I choose a quick NTSF format, the loading screen in blue comes out, and after a few seconds, the computer shuts down on me!
Now Im stuck without a Operating system because it does not load!
Any ideas???

Don't do a quick install, delete any existing partitions/installs and perform a full install....your problems sound like a hardware issue though.

I tried both methods (a quick and full) with the same results for both. Once I get to about 5% of the full and about 20% of the quick install, thats when the system reboots!!!! Its really bothersome, what can I try to do???

Scandisk on your HDD.. and check your ram.

check in the bios under something like hardware monitor as it sounds like a thermal shutdown.

While you are trouble shooting might as well crack open the case and blow out the dust bunnies. I'll echo the others and say again it sounds like hardware issues. Run ScanDisc and Memtest and look at the heat in BIOS as recommended.
