hi,this is my first time post on this site and i am wondering anyone could give me some tips on which would be the best software to convert and burn dvds.I have tryed cucusoft pro edition with no luck,tryed varios discs,and now i am in to minds to what the problem is,maybe its the software,which my friend said it definatey works,or would it be my standalone dvd player,any suggestions which could help me solve this would be gratly appricaited,from Gerkas

cheers,attar thanks for the advice,I have seen the Verbatim discs in the shops,but i wondered if they where any good,I have only had my computer about two months and i hadn't heard of them before.As for the software were i work two other people also have computers and both of them recommended the cucusoft pro edition which i haven't succsessfully got to work,thats why i decided to try these forums.I will try dvd flick cos i have heard before,and if that doesn't work,I think i will have to change my standalone dvd.Do you have any comments on Divx players,because if i was going to upgrade my dvd,Divx has been reccommended.Thanx again...

Based on my own experience, fewer people are converting video to DVD format and are instead making DivX compliant data disks to use in standalone DivX players.
Over the air recordings, saved as AVI, take up less space than the equivalent DVD format, thus more running time on one DVD disk.

thanx again attar,i will let you know how i get on with dvd flick,my current dvd player does support the dvd+r dvd+rw mpeg, so i think i will try your suggetion(above)before i rush into buying a new player.

hi attar, or anyone else who should be reading this thead, i tryed on numerous occasions to try and burn avi to dvd with different programmes and iwas not succcessful until i tryed convert 2 dvd which i had execlent results. i think in the end it is a matter of trail and error until you get a programme which works with your computer.if i was to recommend anything to burn avi to dvd it would be convert 2 dvd,but as i said earier its a matter of trail and error.if anyone has got any comments about their experiences on this matter please type back.

If you have a standalone DVD player than can play mpeg4 divx/xvid
directly, all you need to do is burn the avi file to the disc as
data - There's no extra encoding involved. It just gets burned as
data, the same as if you were burning a folder of Word Documents .

Thanx for that piece of info davexnet,i was thinking of upgrading my dvd player to a divx player because of all the hype but because iam i fairly new computer user i didn't understand how they worked properly.i suppose its much quicker to burn avi files stright to disc without having to convert them.thanx again i might upgrade afterall.

Well but keep in mind it can be a pain. With movies you'll lose the ability to stop it and re-start at a later date and no more chapters for easy navigation back or forward.
