I'm getting a new motherboard and processor to upgrade my pc. I guess this will also improve the ripping speeds to the hard drive?

I have a 4 year old? dvd rom drive (Hitachi GD-7500) which at the minute only rips at 1.8x.
And a NEC-ND1300a dvd writer which only rips at max 3.0x now.

I'm hoping the upgrade will speeed up ripping. I don't want to use the writer for ripping.

What DVD-ROM drives can you recommend for best ripping preformance (on P4 2.6GHz)? I heard TDK drives were good? I'd prefer one which doesnt need hacked firmware.

Thanks,
Toss

I guess the most essential is the ripping software not a DVD-ROM?
