Does anybody have any problem splitting a movie in order to back it up at 100% quality on two discs using DVDFab version 5? My Disc 2 skips during the first two minutes or so upon viewing. I switched brand (from Sony to CMC) and manually re-split the movie at different chapters but the problem with skipping during the first portion of Disc 2 persisted. Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated! BTW, I am using an external Sony (DRX-840U)

Bad move. CMC discs are junk. You were better off with $onys. Best are Taiyo Yuden discs

Sorry I should have made myself a bit clearer: after the Sony brand failed during the "split", I switched to HP (manufactured by CMC) and encountered the same problem. Just tried again using Sony discs and the second disc of the "split" won't even play. It jumped from the first few minutes of the fist scene to the preview trailers and then froze at the menu.
Thank you in advance for any insight!

I tried FixTV but the problem with Disc 2 (split from one title into 2 DVD-R) persists. Must be the curse on a newbie from the ripping/burning god :(

Nah, no curse. Dvdfab rips poorly (does not give clean rips)
Can you do the following ?
1) Rip movie to HDD (full disc)
2) use fixvts on (full disc)
3) Run dvdfab to split into two discs (create files)
4) use imgburn (build mode ) create iso file
5) use imgburn (write mode) burn to disc
6) watch movies (imgburn IMHO is the best burning engine out there)

iluvendo,
What would you suggest to rip to the Hard Drive with, if you don't think DVDFAB gives clean rips?
I am having problems also with splitting discs
Thanks in advance

DvdFab rips good as far as removing protection, just not always the cleanest files. Utilizing FixVts after ripping solves it pretty well, but is not always necessary.
As far as the problem splitting discs, that issue was adressed with the latest update. (currently, ver. 5.0.2.5)

I prefer to rip with Anydvd, although I own both Anydvd and dvdfab. I use fab when anydvd cannot rip the movie (it is wise to have more than 1 proggie up the sleeve)

Easy,
1) rip to HDD with Anydvd
2) open files with Fab and select split disc custom option. And away you go
Thanks in advance

Hi iluvendo,
Why do you rip with AnyDVD and not with DVD Fab Platinum? Is it because AnyDVD has better means to break/decode the encrypted discs?

I prefer Anydvd (although I also own dvdfab platinum), because the rips come out cleaner ( ie, the menu functionality is better) and it seems as if Anydvd decrypts better over fab as of late. Also I can use Anydvd with my favorite old program (Ripit4me). Sometimes when Anydvd is not working, Fab comes through.
