Updating firmware question

I am using Windows XP SP1.

In the text file which came with firmware A301 it says;

"4. If the current firmware version is a lower number than the new version the Update button should be green. If it's red the program cannot communicate with your drive or your drive has the current firmware revision."

My existing version was A300 and yet, after clicking the A301 firmware .exe file, the update button was red in my case, although the update dialogue correctly identified my existing firmware as A300 and the update as A301. I clicked the update button anyway, held my breath, and after about 15 seconds a message came up saying the update was completed. The update button then changed to green and the text label on it changed to "Reboot". The same thing happened with the A302 firmware. I assume that everything is OK, but I am still puzzled about why the update button was red. Any other people experienced this?

While I was updating to A302, I absent-mindedly forgot (duh!) that there was a DVD-R disk in the drive. After clicking "update" I realised this and cancelled the update. Then I repeated the update process and got the "updated complete" message. I was lucky I guess. The drive is still working.
