okay, i dl'd smart ripper, no prob there. loaded up my dvd no prob. selected my vob to rip, selected my target destination, still no prob. but there is no "start" button on the left pane, only a settings button. whats up with that?

okay, i used a different ripper this time, uhm, i believe it was dvd decoder. i got the vobs out and am now using dvd2avi to save the project with all the reccomended specs from your guide. it seems to be going well. will keep you posted. (like i am sure youre holding your breath ;-}~

well, my sys (athlom 1ghz, 256 meg, soundblaster live, geforce2 mx, 30gig) just froze. however, i was multitasking, maybe it doesnt like that, so i am running the project anew and we'll see what happens.

I am Jacks raging frustration!!!!

tried again with all the latest upgrades and patches and settings and all that friggin jazz, and i got up to about 19 minutes remaining in the conversion in dvd2avi and the friggin sys froze again! is there any way i can save my progress? can i use these partial project files?? please help

okay, i can use the partials as i found out. now i have a different problem, see thread entitled sys froze in mid tmpgenc conversion blah blah blah

Haven't heard anyone to have any problems using SmartRipper, AVI.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD2AVI or TMPGEnc under XP other than ASPI layer issues with ripping. Sounds like your OS is somewhat *cked at the moment.

hmm, that would surprise me as it is a brand new installation on a newly formatted unpartitioned hdd. i dont know what the *k is going on, i just ran flask and got through about 26% of the process when it froze again. GRRRRR
