Hey guys, I just wanted to hear people's opinions on why Metal Gear Solid is soo good. You can disagree and say things that you dont like about it, but dont be overcritical and degrading. Is it the story? How the game plays out the story through gameplay? the characters? Those are some questions to get you started. Just feel free to speak about anything. Thanks~

It's so good because it's got great gameplay and graphics but more importantly i think it's the storyline that is catching! Besides God of War, Max Payne, Ninja Gaiden and a few other great games, it's the kinda game you wanna play over and over again! - Simply put game from a thinking team - hands down!!!!!!

yeah, i agree. but i also had second thoughts on the gameplay, it wasnt exceptionally good, which is why i think its great. It was one of the first games that threw away flashy gameplay in order to allow the players to focus on other parts of the game,,,hence the story...i believe.
kinda like letting the games story tell itself rather than making the player want to see more cool action scenes. although...the story telling was awesome...like cutscenes and stuff. really immersed you in a theatrical feeling.

I liked it a lot. Much better that most ps1 titles, for the play and the story.

yeah, so true, MGS made the ps what it is today. without MGS the ps wouldnt be as great as it is today. i hate how people dont give credit to the people who tried to make a different type of game that was worth praise. its a masterpiece in so many areas...gameplay, story, characters...its just amazing.

the whole metal gear solid series is a masterpiece. it's one of the original stealth-based games, and the storyline connects with all four games, which is kinda rare for a game. the gameplay makes you feel like you're in a movie. also, it has lots of replay value, due to two different endings and multiple difficulties.

speedruns are fun to do. although the game takes place inside a base, running back and forth gets time consuming, in which you try to find faster ways (cardboard boxes and trucks anyone?). or try doing a no detected run with no stealth camo.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

it definitely influenced and built up its rep though. if people think mario when nintendo is mentioned, i believe mgs is something people think of when the ps is mentioned...in that sense it greatly influenced it...dont you think?
