hey guys. my friend and i just went out and bought slim psps today at best buy. it came with the latest version of sony's firmware, so we got our friend to use his phat psp and make a pandora battery / magic memory stick. we downgraded both our psps to use custom firmware so we can run firmware and everything. it all works perfectly. however, i have some questions about wireless connectivity.
i go to college and so there is wireless access throughout campus / the dorms. however, to get onto the network you have to connect and then when you open up a browser you are redirected to a login page in which you enter your university id / password. you can't use the internet until you do this.
this is fine if i'm just using sony's built in web browser, because i can easily log on every time i want to connect. however, if i try to run psptube, it can't connect to youtube or anything because it doesn't know to redirect me to a login screen first.
i also fear that in games, i won't be able to connect wirelessly, because the game won't redirect me to a log in page for the wireless network.
i know people must have run into this problem before, is there any solution? thanks.
(adding a wep key in the network config wouldn't work ... since that's not the problem. there is no wep key for the network. its a separate login page).
thanks a ton!

i can see whats happening here
and i dont think there is any way of getting past it. the only thing i can suggest it log in on the internet browser and then use psptube.
now there is one other thing i just remeberd which is that there is a plug in (or homebrew cant remember) that allows you to open the internet brower when in a game or homebrew (cant remeber the name) you could try loging in while on the homebrew and see if that helps
if not there isnt much you can do
all i can suggest is that you talk to the admin at the college and see what he has to say
the reason its set up like this is that programs that arnt internet browser cant access there internet connection (i.e bittorrent)

thanks for your post, it was very helpful :).
i tried your first suggestion last night with no luck :(. do you have a link to the homebrew you talked about? that sounds like it might work! i was planning on going to STC later today too (computer lab type people) to see what they say. they're pretty much the most unhelpful POS guys on campus though. hehe

he said there's no way to do it so far.
however, i was wondering if you register the device based off of its mac address, like a wireless router, would it work?

you could do something like that but its likly that the network will not support it. do you have a laptop? there is a program called xbconnect which i think supports the psp
it works by going through the router then to the laptop then the router again (i would suspect) so if programs (like a bittorrent) can pass through the internet once logged in it might just work
dont ask me how to use it as i tried it on a xbox and it failed so im no good here

hmn... anything dealing with a laptop i want to stay away from. we have wireless routers in our rooms so we can easily connect to those. we are more concerned about if we happen to be in campus, or in the lounge, or in class, or at work.
i went and registered the mac address at the STC on campus ... but they didn't really seem like they knew what they were doing and it still doesn't work.
because we don't have WEP access on our wireless network at school, and instead use blue socket login ... one of the guys there said it is impossible to get it to work. however, i've been looking around online and it seems like if you do register the mac address, you should be able to bypass any sort of login.
so ... i don't really konw what to do.

thanks :) awesome.
i was looking around in network settings for the psp and there's an option to turn "start browser" on connect. the psp says that this is exactly for the situation i have, where after you connect to the internet no matter under what app, it will launch a broswer for you to login, and then close it. however, i tried it wouldn't even let me choose the network anymore in apps such as PSPtube. i google'd this option too to learn more about it, but didnt find much...

@binkie7 i aint bothered about giving it him, as he cant access router settings. i am bothered about all his freinds using it so i cant play on my ps3.
