Can anyone tell me is it possible to fit a sata hard drive instead of an ide hard drive in a chipped xbox, i realize i would have to use one of those converter cards.
The only problem i can see is the space needed inside the xbox
Can anyone answer this.

you can do it but you will have to modify the case and the adapter slows the rate of transfer it is best to stick to ide drive

Ok, well how badly is the differance?.. Im sitting with a 500 GB HDD now, planning on giving it a RAM upgrade, and was thinking on a 1T HDD. Thing is i cant find a 1T HDD in IDE, so im planning on getting a external HDD and opening it, if its STAT then i want to know what to expect. Im also in process of doing a lot of other mods to it, if your intrested i can list some of them off.. :) I like my Pwitty XBOX......

I can tell you for sure that its possible to hook a sata harddrive to your Xbox. I have fitted a Samsung 750gb sata harddrive in my Xbox, with a very small Sata to IDE converter. IT works like a charm! And the heat from the drive is not that bad, so i dont have to mod it with extra cooling.

The limit is 2TB in an Xbox, and when the prices go down, i'm gettin one of them!

Hope it helps!

There's also another option & that's an extender kit,it works great i have them fitted to my two xboxes tho they are IDE & as previous poster has stated the slim adapator fits without cutting if you decide to go SATA,they used to be $95.00 but because of our slack exchange rate at the mo they've gone up quite bit to $140.00 NZ

Thanks guyz, now as for the Q about external HDD, i was not going to connect a external one, i was going to take the HDD from in it out, cuz its a regluar HDD. and i was going to do that, since it was cheaper to buy an xternal one at the time, then internal... And i have to get a HDD upgrade, cuz i filled 500 on it... lol...... lotta porn.... :P lol..

Hi Dannermax. You mentioned that you used a SATA to IDE converter in the xbox. Would you mind posting a pic of the adapter, or alternatively an Ebay link to the same type of adapter that you have? In my experience it's hit or miss with this sort of thing and I'd rather get one that is known to be working rather than waste my time chasing parts from Hong Kong....thanks, Tony.

Thanks for your reply Tony.

Actually its a while ago since i posted this thread. I found out that my xbox didnt support my 750gb harddrive. So i tried out the harddrive in another Xbox, and it worked. So seems like it was a compatibility issue. You kinda gamble with your money when attaching 3rd party units to an Xbox.

Merry Xmas!
