Hi, i recently had help using VirtualDub to crop the subtitles off with-in the black boarder at the bottom of the screen, which has worked great apart from one thing.

My problem is i just get the black boarder cut off my video file with no replacement boarder, so there,s a black boarder at the top and none at the bottom.

In the guide there's this instruction: Put a checkmark in "Expand frame and letterbox image" but there is no box for this option, is this the reason for the problem and do i need an earlier version of VirtualDub.

Also can i get this codec for Virtualdub, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC so i can use it for compression, thanks again for any help.

I assume this is a 4:3 video with the 16:9 image in letterbox.
This particular video has a resolution of 576x432.

Load the video in Virtualdub and select the 'Null Transform' filer.
Initialy the file resolution is shown as the original input size, 576x432.
Select 'Cropping'

I trimmed 56 pixels from top and bottom (divisible by 4).

Select Filters again.

Choose the 'Resize' filter.
The top pane shows the current cropped size (576x320).
In the lower pane choose 'letterbox to aspect ratio' and 4:3 aspect - 'ok'

Set the video compression - taking care that the codec doesn't resize the video and save as avi.

You should get the video within a new letterbox without the subtitles.
