I have the actual disc version of FFVII Crisis Core, and the original PSP (not slim). I'm not using any custom firmware, and I have the latest update of the official firmware (3.95? I think.)
Basically my problem is, when it renders anything outside of a CGI cutscene, the graphics tend to turn 2D when the characters turn sideways. Basically it looks like paper mario. I'm not sure what could be causing it, but I have also seen things like eyeballs rendering on top of the skin they are supposed to be under etc.
I suspect it might just be a defective disc, but I thought I would see if anyone else had this problem as well or had any idea what could cause it. Thanks.
it's probably the psp not being able to render fast enough from the umd disc. the default psp speed is 222mhz(?), but people who have custom firmware and run CC:FFVII off their memory stick change the speed to 300.
i have no problems running CC:FFVII off my memory stick. and i have played the original japanese and UNDUB version with no problems.
I've played it off my memory stick using 3.90 m33-2 and have had no problems as well. If you're definitely using official firmware, then it doesn't leave a lot to consider as a cause.
I would have thought a defective disc would cause much more than real-time rendered in-game graphics malfunctions. Does this happen with any other games? Is the UMD legit? Are you sure?
Yes its definitely a legit disc, I even went and exchanged it at a different gamestop yesterday, so the possibility of it being a bad batch of discs is out as well. Thankfully its still playable and the FMVs load fine, so I'll just play it with the terrible rendering for now, and wait for a reply from sony I suppose :/
