So i had a friend install my wiikey a few days ago. he accidently ripped off one of the pads and so had to solder a peice of copper wire to the leg of the chip. After this the Wiikey worked perfectly. I was running 1.9s and 3.2E on my PALwii and was playing SSBB (dual layer Wiizard patched pal version) when it crashed. I turned of my wii and tried it again and it ran suuuuuperrrr Sloooowwww so i figured the wii drive must be overheating (it seems to have some issues reading ssbb) and i turned it off. After this i turned it back on again and tried ssbb and it came up with the black screen error message about checking the wii's manuel and yadada. THEN i couldn't play any backup games/disks AT ALL. They just span in the drive then stopped. I tried the recovery disk but that didn't work cause it just span and stopped like the others. I thought the wiikey might need resoldering so i cracked it open and turned it on. Just to make sure there wasn't any pressure on the disk drive. I was using a screw driver to turn it on cause the front face had been taken off to get it open. When i pressed the power button my screw driver slipped off and touched the board or Led or something and my Wii just shut off. Now it won't turn on at all. It literally just sits there and the LEd doesn't turn on or anything its just dead.
So any help/experiences with the same thing would be appreciated

Disconnect all power and let it sit for 30 min. Reconnect power and try to power it up. if no success, you're dead.
The lesson to be learned here is - Use a NON metallic tool when operating around energized circuits.
Indeed. Ill try powering it up again and if that doesn't work im going to go through it with a multi meter. Anyone know of the location of a fuse in the wii that i could've shorted. As for the disk problem i was going to try resoldering my mod chip. Maybe you should try that
You have most likely shorted the board, and without a replacement you have a very good looking paper weight.
as for the wiikey their was a good chance you damaged it during soldering (i have had an experiance similar to yours) it was due to my new solder point being too close to another point, the chip will work/kinda function before shorting completely.
ebay a new wii main board, or sell off your wii as spares to buy a new wii.
Yea I figured. I'll probably buy a new wii and try to transfer the dvd drive because it appears to be fine. So lesson is DON'T GO PRODDING ABOUT IN THE WII WITH A SCREWDRIVER WHEN ITS ON
