We gotta love those oil companies. We're giving them the most of our money.

As far as transportation, you could buy a horse, I guess. I hear a lot of "they say" here, but no facts. I think that if gasoline approaches 6-7 USD a gallon, the consumers perhaps will modify their driving habits and reduce usage of the product and thus slow the price increases. Just my thoughts.

Again, what return on investments (%) would you consider appropirate?

Give me some investment figures and I'll be glad to comment. I gave some round figures and stated where I thought the excess should go. I've not seen where the big oil companies give out actual investment figures. Also, you misunderstood, I'm not for nationalizing oil companies. As I mentioned, that would likely make the situation worse. That leaves your discourse on nationalization meaningless except to voice your agreement it would be unlikely to help. However, I do believe there should be a governmental committee set up to look into the gouging situation much the same way they're doing with milk production.

Alaska and the Gulf Coast of Florida should be drilled instead of being protected at the expense of the rest of the country. Any relief would be several years in the future though. Russians can drill off Alaska, but not US interests. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Bilbo... The US is no longer the only big user of oil. Take a look to India and China. They've joined in the bidding on major quantities of oil. Even if the US slows down consumption, the rest of the world will manage to keep prices up. For one, I have curtailed a lot of vehicle usage and travel by motorcycle whenever possible. If you really want to help out though, you can have your horse. LOL They add to the ozone depletion though by gas emissions. You get into global warming issues there. LOL

The original point wasn't about oil though, it was about revolution. If we're going to revolt, it should be against someone or something that drastically effects our lives. Oil companies are hitting us harder than government at this point. As for the US, the people have had no relief from the oil companies regardless of the political party in power. We have to look where the real power is and it doesn't appear to be government. Seems government is simply becoming facilitators for power brokers and they don't get much bigger than Big Oil.
