Problem buring with i/o magic burner

I am having some problems with my idvd18dl i/o magic burner...I was burning movies with dvd shrink near capacity (16x) with TDK media, but it was not running correctly in my dvd player, i.e. not being able to access menus, but it DOES work correctly on my PC. So I burned at a slower speed (8x) to no avail. I also tried to burn another movie, and got a burn failure. Please help!!

Your DMA is off.
You're using crap media.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Slowed down burn to 8x
burner is now DMA
uninstalled nero 8, installed nero 7
burn still failed...
I am still using the "junk" media but I fairly sure it's not the cause...my roommate uses the same media and he never has the kind of problems I do...

Key medium error is when a drive is not fond of the media you're giving it. Sometimes a firmware update for your drive will correct this, but CMC MAG's are junk.
Just because you don't believe that, doesn't mean it isn't true.

Been a while since I replied to this, due to the fact I did indeed update the media that was being used to verbatim dvd - rs...which worked great up until I just got another spindle...now for some reason these dvd - rs aren't working...I have not changed any settings...

Start off with original post,don't go by the blank media someone else is using unless both you have the exact model # of dvd-rw drives. Format can also contribute to that. Your buddy may use dash,but your drive may favor the plus format.
You switched batches:Please give great detail to that switch. Switched brand names/format/or switched to another identically packaged tub of the same stuff?
On a lot of brand name media,the media may have been made by 2 or more different manufacturers. Memorex/TDK/and maxell are notorious about.The MID code changed and your dvd-rw drive tells you so.
Your burner is a rebadged liton. The firmware version of XP5P making it a re-badge instead of the actual XY12 Liteon firmware. That's all I could locate on your burner. A firmware update may help,but with IOMagic drives,they'll probably never issue another newer fw update.Check to see if there is a newer firmware update/drivers at IOMagic's website.Update the firmware as a last resort.You wanna make sure it's the correct version for your IO drive or you may ruin it.IO Magic drives are not highly recommended. I had 2 in the internal 16x speed. First one was an actual Benq 1620 and still working on over 5000+ backups and counting. The 2nd IO drive I bought a couple months later yielded an EMPA drive from Middle East FIZO and a pure pc of crap. BTC also made that same drive for IO magic. 3 different drives,but only 1 good manufacturer for IO. I'll never buy IO again.
1)your problem arrose after switching blank media.That's the 1st thing to look at:

Are these verbatim -16x or another brand using verbatim's MID code? Could be fakes or a bad batch. Try a blank that's toward the bottom of the tub.
Your re-badged litey has bitsetting capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom. Take special note of that in case you run into any drives that give a no disc error when your backups are inserted. Booktyping increases the compatability of your backups. The dash format could be your main issue. Try a batch of Verbatim +16x.
If no dice:
2)Go into device manager,locate the DH20A3P drive,uninstall drivers to it and reboot. Sometimes dvd-rw drives get lost and the uninstall/reboot fixes it.
No Dice:
3)You've still got 2 versions of nero loaded on your pc. Nero 7.8.5.0 and interface 6.3.1.4
Try running nero cleantool 6,then nero cleantool 7,and then load a stable version of nero back onto the pc-leaving out the INCD packets.
