Slowdown on PS1 Square Enix Games

I notice I tend to get a slowdown on Playstation (PS1) Square Enix games when I play them on my PSP--mainly the music "lags" right before I enter a battle.

this happens on Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and Valkyrie Profile.

I am using a slim PSP CFW 3.71 M33-4 I believe, and am using a Lexar 2gb memory stick pro duo, but I also have the same problem on my Sony 1 gb memory stick pro duo that came with my psp.

I could not find my answer in the stickies. Can someone help me out? :) Thanks so much!

You probably just need to install POPSLOADER...see HERE for a guide.

Well last night I tried FFVII again with POPSLOADER and 3.72, and it seems to run ok... if there is any lag or slowdown, it is basically negligible and very hardly noticeable.

However, should I update my firmware to 3.90 M33? Would that help emulation speed?

Updating is up to personal preference. I only recently updated from 3.71 M33-4 to 3.90 M33-3, and i have noticed very little difference. Unless you want to use skype/Go! Messenger or install newer custom themes then there is no reason that you cannot stay at 3.71 M33-4.
