u can reply to this if u want, but what happened was i was trying to install IR shell on my psp and at the time did not know i did not have right firmware. so i end up bricking my psp. i think fast and do a full shut-down go into to recovery and then exit basically rebooting my psp and getting rod of the brick. i never heard of a reboot getting rid of a brick. have u?
perhaps a semi-brick? because every time i turned it on it would say, incompatible firmware detected. shut off psp immediately. and it said it every time i turned it on, so i took out the memory card, and put it into my memstick pro duo reader, and deleted all of the IRshell files. then i put it back in my PSP and it still said the same problem so thats when i went into recovery mode and fixed it.
What happened was you probably had the IRShell plugin enabled to launch at start up. Because the two programs weren't compatible it gave you that error. Same thing happened to me when I deleted IRshell off my PSP, took all the files off and the first time I started it up I saw an error message. Thought I'd screwed myself over until I took a quick look in the recovery menu.
Don't be too upset you didn't actually brick your PSP, last time I checked not bricking your PSP was a good thing.
In recovery menu go to the plugins, there should be something like prxirshell (I think, it's been awhile since I had IRShell). Enabled it'll boot automatically, Disable it'll load up to the XMB first. I don't think that this changes unless you personally change it, so if you don't know how to get to it then this may not be your issue.
