had this onkyo ht-s790 a couple years, but right away i noticed that the subwoofer pops whenever there is a loud explosion on a movie/video game, or any other very bassy sound. as you can imagine it's very annoying. is this something that can be remedied with a better cable (using the stock cable, it seems very cheap) or is the sub dead? if i need to replace the sub, can you recommend a comparable inexpensive one? thanks

the sub is a power subwoofer skw-540
bass reflex
330 mV/100 ko
max output 230 w dynamic
25hz-150hz

thanks for the help all

really? i have a rare kidney disorder and i need a transplant. you seem like a nice guy. do you think you could help me out?

im sure the sub blowing in a HTIB is not a rare scenario, im sure there is someone who reads/posts here has had to replace one. putting the thread out there to get this guy to read it and reply with something like "hey take a look at ______ subwoofer" doesnt seem like it's asking much.

the onkyo htib is $450, you gave me a link to $1000 subs, thanks again.

But if money is an issue, and we are in a recession, then I suggest you reign in your champagne tastes and start to learn to drink water (ok bottled Costco brand is fine) instead until you save enough for the champagne again.

Unfortunatly, it is expensive to fix or replace high performance equipment. The other expensive possiblity is you damaged your amp. I had a problem like yours and I had damaged the main diodes in the power amp. Not knowing this I bought new speakers and they got blown out as well.

I suggest buying cheap speakers and see if the problem goes away. Then you would have sound while you hunt for a bargain.

Ughhh, yea! Damn man, that sucks. Anytime you flash FW on a computer, controller card, DVD player, be very careful. I don't think I would of even had the huevos to even attempt to flash a 2500 dollar tv. Have you tried calling Samsung to figure out whether or not you bricked your tv? Did you download the right FW?
oh crap, you know what? i accidentally used the flashware for my microwave instead.

i guess i did not realize i could completely destroy my television by trying to update the flash, since the notion is not even flirted with on the samsung support site, in their help file for this flashware update, or in this thread
Did you ever get your TV fixed? Sounds like you never have any luck in the a/v dept. my friend.

I suggest you do a little research.

I'd agree that some foward thinking and research may be a helpful venture in the immediate and near future.

Good luck to you.

Not sure about damaging, but it will make your speakers sound like crap and will cause distortion when cranked up, Make sure you buy some good quality cable, and get as large a gauge as your speaker terminals will take.

According to The Absolute Sound Magazine, 10 AWG extension cord with the ends cut off make excellent heavy duty speaker cables. Great sound too.

Monster cables aren't bad just way over priced, try these guys, good quality and reasonable price.
http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm

Look at speaker cabling this way, it's easier to suck liquids through a big straw than it is too suck liquids through a small straw.
Bigger the cable the easier the flow is.
