The Linksys Wireless-G USB adapter can't be used with the Xbox 360. The main reason is because the Linksys Adapter came with a CD correct? That CD contains the drivers for the device so that your computer can install the hardware properly.

With 360's, they also need the drivers for the device, however they are unable to read software discs. Therefore if you were to plug in your Wireless adapter into your 360 it would not work.

The Microsoft Wireless Adapter is needed and these are expensive! They work as the drivers needed are either already on the console or on the adapter itself.

If you do not want to spend much money on the wireless adapter, you could always try the wired method. If your wireless router isn't far away from the Xbox 360, use an ethernet cable to connect the router and console together.

There is other things you could do.I have a linksys router and a netgear print server and I use it just for my xbox and it works great. The only thing you have to setup is for your router to allow it to recieve signal.I paid 40.00 dollars for the server better than 100.00 I game online and watch HD/movies without a hicup.

Popeye, if you are going to connect the Xbox 360 to the Router using an ethernet cable, there will be no need for the Wireless Adapter. At the end of the day it is pretty pointless because ethernet provides your maximum speed whereas wireless may provide you with maximum speed only if the xbox 360 is located near to the router.

I too want the wireless adapter but its costing me £50 and after all it is only a bit of plastic. What I don't understand is why Microsoft are charging so much when wireless adapters for computers can be picked up so cheaply.

I found an alternative for internet connections using the ethernet cable when the router is not near the Xbox. You plug an ethernet adapter into your mains socket and connect an ethernet cable from the adapter into your router. Then you plug in another mains adapter near the xbox and plug an ethernet cable from the xbox into the adapter. Look at this page. It is nearly the same price as the Wireless adapter, however it is certain to give you 100% speed.

I agree, unless you can not stand the speeds of the PC on wireless i would just let him have the router hard wired to the 360. For online gaming the speed of your connection is crucial, much more so then for the PC which you probably will see a lot less of a difference.

If you want an adapter the Linksys WGA54G (you can get them on Ebay for $50 all day every day) will work as that is what i have, but with most adapter you still want to be 150 feet or less from the router to avoid the signal dropping during games.
