PSP was exposed to light water, leaked into the PSP, now has internal damage probably and has a few "bugs" that I have found. I am seeking help in figuring out exactly which components were damaged from the water, any suggestion would be appreciated. Here are the problems I found with the PSP since the accident.
* LCD turns off if HOME button is pressed, comes back if the power switch is pushed down to LOCK function and then pushed back to normal.
* All "Botton row" buttons are not functioning except the Select button and Home button (which causes an LCD problem if pressed, noted above).
* I use CFW 3.91 m33-2, and when I press Select at the XMB, I cannot get out of the options menu unless I manually power off my PSP
* This part is confusing, because I cannot be sure that my speakers are broken or not: The volume on my PSP is always at 0 and when the PSP is turned on, the MUTE function is enabled but for some reason disabled if I put my PSP on LOCK function then release LOCK. This MIGHT indicate that my speakers are broken but I cannot be sure because I have no way of toggling the volume to be sure.
I am quite sure that my bottom row buttons have to be replaced, but I also think there is a problem with maybe the LCD or power circuit of my PSP, perhaps even the motherboard (although I really hope it isn't the motherboard). Any suggestions are welcome, and if anyone knows where I could get the PSP repaired
It sounds like the power board and the button bar are the fried components. The LCD probably has no damage, because the Home button must just be connected with the Display button and the hold switch.
Oh, I wanna add that the PSP being described is a PSP Slim.. if it makes any difference, maybe the components are different..? I'm gonna buy the components on eBay but I don't wanna waste money on something that is working fine in my PSP
Yer, psp fat and psp slim have very different motherboards and i think the lcd's are different too. If your gonna try and buy spare parts on ebay make sure they are the exact same as your psp. For example if you have a psp-2003 make sure you buy that specific one.
I think the buttons are the same though, no the motherboard though....
I had a similair incident, I lft my PSP in my basement and it flooded, the PSP would not work for about a wekk, I figure maybe just maybe it would dry out and work again. I would try to turn it on and nothing but a green light, no noise no screen, nothing, So I did what any respectable gamer does, I hit that fucking PSP so hard with my palm, (being sure not t break the screen) and Viola! It works!!! perfectly. So their is my story, doesent help you much but yea, just Fonzie that mofo.

Yeah that usually works with most electronics. Weird Huh? Maybe ill try it on my psp i havent b4 cause i thought it would break more. But dunno. Right now it turns on every once in a while and after about 25 minutes of playing it it freezes and i have to pull out the battery cause it wont let me turn it off.
PSP's been broken for likkee.. i dunno.. +3-4 months .. soo i doubt hitting it any more will work lol.. anyways any1 else got a suggestion as to which components got fuxxored up
something like that happened to me while i was moding my friends psp fat he got oil or water in it all the buttons wenr't working the bottom row works but its bugged
i did it kinda of fast i took it apart then i let it set for 2 hours
and it was fine
Yeah I'd say the best thing would be to take it apart as soon as that happens. Otherwise, if it's been non-working for a while, take it apart and check to see if any components are rusty or look burnt out. You might want to look through a magnifying lens. If you can identify the component try to get a replacement part. If it's a resistor or something it should be easy to find a replacement. Well, not impossible. :) I'm sure you could post a close-up pic of your PCB and maybe someone can see it if your pic is high quality.
yea im really hoping its just the pcb bar, it's the only thing i know how to replace.. kinda
what would be super helpful is if some1 knew a program that like..i dunno.. could remotely play the psp from a pc.. so i could adjust the volume and crap, see whats wrong and stuff. i tried one remote program but that didnt give any option to use any of the psps buttons.. Remotejoy i think it was or whatever
