I have an xbox 360 (Modded my self Benq iXtreme v1.41), and a softmodded xbox original.

With this said I have been doing reading about backwards compatibility form xbox to 360, They say you have to patch the game and burn it to a dual layer DVD. Well this tempted me to play around a bit so I referenced the compatibility list found a game I had in my library and put the backed up game in the 360 and received an error, Fine so I took an original xbox game and the 360 played it? My question is this if the original game plays in the original xbox and it plays in the 360 why won't a backed up version of an original xbox game play on the 360 without it being on a dual layer DVD?

I am only trying to understand why;)

A few reasons.

iXtreme doesn't support single layer games. Yes... we know the 360 will play burnt movies, etc. on a single layer.

Ripping games via ftp didn't include the necessary security info which the 360 requires.

Most of the programs used for ripping the original Xbox games changed the default.xbe of the game. That needs to be unaltered for the 360.

I see I was kind of leaning towards the firmware as the reason as to why this would explain why. Thank you for your answer you have been helpful :)

Now, there is older Xtreme firmware for the 360 which will let you play Xbox 1 games on a single layer disc. This firmware was only written for the Samsung drive, though. Also, it still needs the default.xbe to be unchanged.

Yes on a dual layer it will work as long as the xbox game is on the compatibility list.
