So I have tried ripping and splitting dvd-9's with all the guides on this website and I have come to the conclusion that if you are not an expert in this field, it is much more simple to just buy the 9.4GB dvd-r's for your 9 layer burns. This is a little more expensive but it will save you much more time and trouble in the long run. I have seen them online for around 2-2.50 each for primdisc dvd-r's. I hope that some of you newbies out there will take my advice cause after 2 months of burning complications, I almost went crazy.

"9.4GB DVD-R" is 4.36GB DVD-R just with two sides, so the process is 100% same as splitting the movie over two 4.36GB DVD-Rs.
So, there's absolutely no point in buying two-sided 4.36GB discs -- you still have to go through the same process as you would for splitting over two discs.

And no, there aren't and most likely there never will be dual-layer DVD-Rs available (8.5GB on one side).

drD, I disagree with you slightly in that there is NO point in buying double sided DVD-Rs. Yes you have to go through the same process, but where I have found double sided discs they are comparable, if not cheaper then buying 2 single sided DVD-R's and you only have to have one case. So I believe it is more of a personal choice.

hkusp40: True, it is more convenient -- but then again, some people prefer printing CD labels, etc and in those cases, one double-sided DVD-R doesn't work :-) But I meant by saying that, that in terms of easiness in backups, there's absolutely no difference.
And blank media in UK costs £0.42 for single-sided DVD-R, while double-sided costs more than £1.00 ;-)

woodymunk: How did you think sites like ours, who cover DVD backupping, would survive if it would be as easy as copying a data CD to CDR?-) This is just a pure conspiracy by major DVD ripping sites ;-))

dRD: Could you tell me the name, e-mail or phone of the store in UK selling DVR-R for £0.42. I live in Spain and here I pay ?3,5 for the same media.
