Now when I say influential, I don't mean one like GoW, which was a boring port that offered little amusement.
Instead, I mean something innovative like Crisis Core, which, despite it's unfavored battle system, was a great game story-wise.
The PSP's games have been mediocre at best, otherwise. Due to the fecund amount of DS players out there, the PSP community's wifi has proven to be rather useless, and its infrastructure unstable and rarely fun. So, the best option is to get some innovative games out there, which the PSP has failed to do.
I'm not hating or being very biased here, and if you want proof of that, look at playstation 1 games.
Metal gear solid, Suikoden, Chrono cross... all single player games that are far better than any contemporary games- they showed everything off well.
The graphics and system for the PSP run much better than that of the PSX's, yet look at the failures.
I think it's a real shame that there is such a huge amount of Japanese only releases. There are some truly original ideas that westerners never get to see unless through import or downloading an iso/cso.
I like Densha de go, not original in concept but there is no similar series on the psp. And have you ever seen anything as bonkers as Finder Love??
If you're frustrated with current releases it's well worth trying some Japanese games, for some games the language barrier is not an issue.
Not wishing to hijack the thread, but perhaps other posters could suggest innovative/interesting games for the rest of us to enjoy?
As i understand Gran Turismo has a scedhuled release of 2009. Long way to go yet though.
Have you tried Echochrome? Not a masssive leap from Crush i spse but it is different and requires more than button bashing to get results. Its damn addictive.
