Ive spent about 30 hours now downloading software, trying trial software out, using various programs.
All i want to do is convert a Vob File to an MPEG (or even AVI!)
I manged to sort vid/audio Synch problems out after about 15 hours! By using different software

However I either get lines on the picture(as if in NTSC and not PAL, but i have chosen the Pal option?!?)
or I get some messed up picture Verticaly down the right hand side of the video which plays all th way through
Or the Converted Vob starts jumping all over the place when its played?!?!
( I did notice that the original VOB file had a really wierd timing on it, like as if it has been split in to sceanes, it plays to 30 seconds then says theres 2 minutes left, then plays to 2 minutes and says theres 40 seconds left ?!?!)

The actual video was synched up before put on DVD, it was an analogue recording which was then synched to the audio.
Im using VLC player to view files.

Can any one help?!?!

I assume the VOB file is part of a DVD rip contained in a 'VIDEO_TS' folder - and the file can be played back normally, without error, using a media player on the PC.

Use AutoGK to convert to AVI format.
Run AGK, browse to the VIDEO_TS folder and select the 'VTS_01_0.IFO' file - this ensures that all relevant files are loaded.
Select a predefined or custom size for the AVI file, 'Add job' and 'Start'.
AGK is best left to run undisturbed, overnight.

why do people make such a meal of this? A vob file is already mpeg2 format so usually just renaming it <whatever>.mpg does the trick.

To convert to different formats use avidemux which can also join/split/edit files on the fly so to speak.

did you try the demo of videoredo plus? VOB's are very easy to edit and convert to mpegs with that program. Quality loss is very minimal with it.

As far as fixing timing issues on VOB's you can try "FixVTS" it's free and works very good. Also videredo plus has a feature to fix the "video stream" on the VOB's.

There's also a simple little program called, believe it or not, 'VOB2MPG'...
