Thinking about buying a pre modded x box. Hoping someone can help with a couple of questions. Most of the site's I find say something like this: "Please visit HERE for more information about flashing your bios. For those of you who believe that these XBOX premods come ready to "PLUG AND PLAY", we advise you to read the link above regarding flashing the bios. These premods come prepared so that one can install linux and linux applications to it. Please be informed before you purchase a premod as to what it can do initially without any bios upgrading on your behalf.
I did find one - www.shopatchris.com that claims their's comes with a chip, with an extra hard drive, and is ready to backup my games out of the box - no flashing the chip or drive necessary - anyone dealt with them before? And why would everyone else have this kind of warning and not do this on the front side and these guys do?

Yeah, I thought so too. I have read a few good threads on them - but maybe from the owner?! who knows. What about the part about flashing the chip and/or downloading software to the drive? I'm a ps2 mod player, converting to xbox - not used to all this chip flashing/software downloading stuff.

like what do you mean i don't understand your question? But for the sites that you visited saying that you have to flash the bios it's because the bios themselves are illegal you'll have to find them yourself. you'll need to flash your chip with bios such as the xecuter 4980 or the evox bios in order to play you backups or putt aps in your xbox hard drive.

Yeah that's what I thought too. The illegal part. Seems odd that this one site would say thier's comes flashed etc and the rest of the sites out there give this warning. Oh well - think I'll do some more research. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, but the whole having to load bios onto the xbox and flashing the chip etc. has me thinking that my dvd burner + ps2 game = much easier way to play backups may outweigh the better graphics and different game selection with an xbox.

I'm just looking at doing my first mods, I have no idea what needs to happen. Can some one tell me what are reasonable mods.
Being in OZ our prices are wierd. I ahve been quoted Aladin mod for $Aus95 (about $US1.65) or Xecuter 2.3 $Aus120 (about $US2.10)fitted. What is the difference, what should I expect?
Also, my xbox doesn't play DVDR's or VCD movies, I have hd my box for approx 18 mths, can anyone tell me why.

I have just done my first mod and the soldering was a pain. I managed it but i really thought i had fried my Xbox.
To get your XBox chipped in the uk it costs about £85 in a shop.
You will probably still have to flash the bios yourself (as the EvoX bios is ilegal). Though this isn't dificult.

your xbox isn't suppose to read dvdr's or vcd's until you mod it.i would reccomend to get an xecuter chip. if you know how to solder get an xecuter lite, but if you don't know how to solder get an xecuter 2.3lite plus. There aren't really any differences between modchips becase all of them enable you to do the same thing. The bios is what makes the difference. Although i would trust the xecuter brand over the aladin. after you get the chip you'll need to locate the bios and the evox dashboard.
more detailed info found here.

Here to clear how to make your xbox work with any chip you fitted. First after you fitted your chip in your xbox, you will need to flash your chip with bios you want (like xecuter2 4981 or Evo M7 - you can find it on mIrc). After flash your chip with any bios above, you ready to play backups. If you want more like to copy your games to harddrive or play dvd without dongle you need to install EvoX (You even can play VCD or SVCD with your modded xbox but you need XBMP software).
Note to grywolf: All testimonials are from customers. What a good site for if you never receive your order.
