adding subs to avi using autogk

using autogk to add hard subs to avi file I am getting an error on the "analyzing source" stage:
"avisynth open failure: directshowsource could not open video or audio"
video returned: "directshowsource couldn't open file, no combination of filters could be found to render the stream"
audio returned: "directshowsource: renderfle, the filter graph manager wou't talk to me"
Can anybody help me to fix it? Any advice"
