I have a new computer on the way, and I will be yanking the drive that comes with it out, and installing an HP400i DVD Burner. This burner is supposed to read DVD at 12x.

Would I be gaining much to install a separate 16xDVD-Rom to do the "reading" when copying a DVD? Or is this even possible? I will only have the sound card connection on one of the drives.

Currently I have an HP300i on a 1.4ghz machine, and it takes about 1hr:40 minutes to read/encode a movie with XcopyPlatinum, then about another 40 to burn it.

Hopefully the new computer (2.6ghzP4) and the new burner will speed this process up a bit.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice on using the 16x DVD-rom in the same machine.
