hey all. I've been contemplating whether i should install linux onto my ps3? i've never seen any operating linux. i don't know anything about it, NOTHING! i just want to know if it's a smart idea to format my ps3's drive and install linux instead. I stumbled upon this link ( http://ps3.qj.net/OpenBOR-v2-1933-releas...g/49/aid/120659 ), can u install homebrew on linux? and last but not least what are the PROS AND CONS? thanks a lot
If you install linux, your PS3 will retain all its current functionality. The linux (other OS) will be available for you to use in PS3 menu.
Regarding homebrew: Yes, linux software does work on linux PS3. It does not run PS3 back ups!
Pros
- SNES/NES/(bunch of other consoles) emulator
- full PC functionality
- Its cool :D
Cons:
- Uses diskspace (not a problem if you choose to upgrade HDD)
wow, sounds awesome! so around how much disk space does it require?
and i heard to install it i have to back-up all my current saved data, music, and so on, is that true?
It requires a 10 gig partition. I have worked with YDL and Ubuntu. I would go with YDL because if want Ubuntu then just install it on your main PC inside of Windows.
