Sorry for starting a new thread, I wasn't too sure if I would get replies back on another... I dont usually do the whole forum thing and I'm no good at searching through them either. So anyway, I have a TA-082 mobo FAT psp (aka IC1003) and I've been searching through forums for awhile now on a guide to downgrade an ofw 3.95 to cfw 2.71... All of the searches I've done have lead me to this site most of the time, and the people on this site seem to know what they're talking about so I thought I'd ask. My problem is I don't have a way to get a Datel Tool battery or buy/create a Pandora Battery so I was wondering if there was another way to downgrade a TA-082 psp to 2.71, I've heard of being able to run homebrew on a 2.71 and emulate cfw 1.5 on a TA-082 mobo, but is there a way to actually install cfw 1.5 without emulating it? Sorry for the long post but im sick of searching through forums for hours on end trying to figure this out... i'm trying to knock this out on one go and the people on this site have nothing but good advice.... please help, any advice at all would be appreciated thanks in advance. :)

p.s.. I found this guide but I wasn't too sure if it would work with an ofw 3.95 TA-082 mobo or not..

Ok so I can't downgrade without a pandora battery and magic memory stick from ofw3.95 then? If that's so... where is a good place to buy a Datel Tool Battery for cheap? I looked a few up and seen them between 25-50 bucks, are there any out there that are cheaper? Also the Datel Tool Battery is already made into a pandoras battery right? So I wouldn't have to have a modded cfw psp to turn it into one correct? Once I use the pandora trick and have fw 2.71 I can install custom fw 3.90 m33? Because I read somewhere that you can brick a psp trying to put things on it when its above fw 1.5. One last question, when I do the pandora thing with a TA-082 mobo psp (aka IC1003) it will give me the option to downgrade to cfw 2.71 and not just downgrade it to fw 1.5 where it will brick right? Thx for the reply before and thx to anyone who can give me some advice on this. ^_^

Sorry for all of the questions.... I'm a total n00b with this psp stuff :P This would be a whole lot easier if my psp wasn't a cursed TA-082 IC1003 heh.

The pandora and MMS will not downgrade your PSP to any other OFW. it will just install custom firmware straight away (if you use the guide in the stickies it will put 3.71 M33-2 onto you PSP...you can then move to 3.90 M33 from there).

How is that possible? I thought only 1.5 OFW or CFW could have other fw/homebrew installed on it? The main reason I ask all of this is because I have a TA-082 mobo and I cant go below 2.5 without bricking my psp.... Can CFW/OFW 2.71 install custom firmware and homebrew stuff?

Im not an expert on how pandora works, but here's how i understand it (hopefully someone will correct me if im wrong)...

When you put in your pandora battery, you PSP is switched on in service mode. Service mode allows the PSP to boot itself up using info from the memory card, instead of the internal flash memory that the PSP would normally use.

What happens then is that as your PSP boots into service mode, it reads the files from your memory stick. At this point, assuming you have made your MMS correctly, it will bring up a menu for you to choose what you want to do. This menu is displayed from the installer files on you MS. When you choose the install 3.71 M33-2 option (assuming your using the universal unbricker v3...guide in the stickies), the installer program writes the Custom Firmware Files over the Official firmware files in your PSP's flash memory.
When this process is completed, your PSP will be running CFW instead of the Sony Firmware.

Therefore your PSP is never downgraded to any official firmware lower than the one you have installed...so you shouldn't have any problems with the TA-82, as you are not going lower than the FW you already have.

As i said, im not an expert how pandora works, so hopefully if thats wrong someone will correct me.

Hope that helps.

Cool, thx for the info everyone... much appreciated =). A few more questions them i'm going to downgrade my psp when my tool battery gets here :P.

1. Is the Datel Tool Battery already a pandora battery? (no need to program it?)

2. Where's a good place to buy the cheapest Datel Tool Battery?

3. If i downgrade my TA-082 psp from OFW 3.95 to CFW 3.71 M33-2 with P-Battery can I install homebrew ect.. (with CFW 3.71 M33-2 installed) or does it have to be downgraded to 2.71 to emulate 1.5 with HENC/DEVHOOK without it bricking?

4. Why do people run CFW 1.5 and 2.71 when they could be running 3.71 M33-2/3.90 M33-3? Are you not able to run homebrew on 3.71 and above?

5. Is CFW 3.90 M33-3 the highest custom fw out there right now?

6. Can I install CFW 1.5 (with a TA-082 mobo) after i use pandoras' battery? Since it will have CFW installed instead of official.

Sorry for all of the noob questions... most of the forums I've read about my psp's mobo were like 2 years old. Thx for any info at all on this in advance :D

Yes

2. Where's a good place to buy the cheapest Datel Tool Battery?
Amazon / ebay. the best way is to find a friend with homebrew enabled and Softmod a pandora. which means installing a little piece of software on a battery then uninstalling it. please read guides at top

3. If i downgrade my TA-082 psp from OFW 3.95 to CFW 3.71 M33-2 with P-Battery can I install homebrew ect.. (with CFW 3.71 M33-2 installed) or does it have to be downgraded to 2.71 to emulate 1.5 with HENC/DEVHOOK without it bricking?
yes if you install 3.71 you cna run homebrew. there will be no need to emulate anything. So long as you have a fat. Slim can not run the 1.5 kernal.

4. Why do people run CFW 1.5 and 2.71 when they could be running 3.71 M33-2/3.90 M33-3? Are you not able to run homebrew on 3.71 and above?
some people change a lot. they may want to be legit. on cfw other than 1.5 and 2.71 you can not run homebrew

5. Is CFW 3.90 M33-3 the highest custom fw out there right now?
no its 3.90 m33-5 i think google "dark alex" and go to his web page.

6. Can I install CFW 1.5 (with a TA-082 mobo) after i use pandoras' battery? Since it will have CFW installed instead of official.
so long as you have a fat PSP, but i dont see why you would want to. CFW 3.71 M33 can do everything that 1.5 can do except you dont run the risk of bricking.

If i was you i would find a friend with a CFW enabled PSP and run the pandora program. (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/585933). creat a pandora and magic memory stick. This will install 3.71 M33. This allows you to:
run homebrew
Play PSX games
Play ISO/ CSO's
Play UMD's.

Hope this helps.

Yeah it helped me out a ton EaZey, thx a bunches! And thx to everyone else ^_^
One thing tho.. you said,
Quote:

but then you also said,
Quote:

One of the main things i'm confused about is the types of firmware.... like 3.71 M33 runs homebrew right? I've heard that was the best for running homebrew games because it runs most of them.

If anyone has a short explanation on CFW i'd love you long time. :D
Are they just versions? for instance... CFW- 1.5/2.71/3.71M33/3.71M33-2 and so on?

Custom firmware is basically a decrypted version run code which is not signed (made) by Sony.

Before CFW was created, people installed 1.50 OFW to their PSP, then used an exploit in the system to play the unsigned code.

Each custom firmare (3.71 M33, 3.80 M33 etc) basically contains all of the OFW features, as well as the ability to play unsigned code, and some extra added in by the hackers (recovery menu, M33 UMD driver etc).

All M33 firmwares can play homebrew, as they have been decrypted to allow it. This means that you do not need to install 1.50 (or any other official firmware) to utilize homebrew.

Hope that makes it a bit more clear, shout up if you have any more questions.

Thanks for that ibizaGTi, was a great explanation.

I've gotten all of the information I needed, you guys have been a huge help. ^_^

I probably won't mod my psp for another week or two, so i won't be able to let you know how it goes until then.

Thanks again for the replies everyone.... laterz.

no problems, happy to help :)

Good look with the modding. im not sure if you have found a guide for the MMS creation etc, but HERE is an excellent one created by larrylje. I can personally recommend this, as i used it to downgrade my PSP and it worked first time, no problems at all. If you have a friend with a PSP running CFW, you can use another one of larrylje's guides, HERE, instead. The only difference is it shows you how to use a pandora creator (for your battery) which needs CFW to run.

let us know how you get on with it!

ibiza seemed to clear it up before i got a chance ;) cheers mate.

all CFW has the ability to run homebrew. SLIM PSP's cant run the 1.50 kernal however i belive there are emulation programs about now? so that you can do everything that a fat psp can do.

Good luck with the mod. you shouldnt need it :P its real easy. plus the pandora and MMS make you invincible/ unbrickable.

So with a Pandora battery and a custom memory card you can use CFW, run homebrew and run ISOs/CSOs off the Memory card??

The Pandora battery and Magic Memory Card combo are used to install custom firmware instead of Sony's official version.

Custom firmware can play homebrew and iso/cso's.
