hi my friend was comming to myhouse so he brought his 360 before we left we played about 2 hours on it worked perfect so we threw it in the car.

when we came to my house i(without checking did it work) opened it nd cleanded the laser and added grease on the rail for the laser put it back together but it wounld not read
*game's
*dvd's

it would read
*cd's(music)

so i opened it again and twisted the dvd pot now it wont read anything.

when you boot the 360 while there is a game inside it just freeze's at the boot logo or if you boot it without a game inside then put one in it try's to read it but can't

did I screw up his laser??? or worse please help

I have the same problem. The drive would do the same thing. Freeze on logo or DDE. Older burns did it less frequently than newer ones. Changed discs, burders, speeds but nothing worked. Tweaked the pot to no avail.
I assumed it was the laser as well but i'm not sure. I'm just going to get a new one and see what happens, they only cost $15-$20 USD so its not a big hit.

The hitachi and Samsung drives use the same laser, Benq use's a diff one.Just go to ebay or something and do a search on 360 replacement laser. They usally will tell you in the auction what it works for.

I would go with the First one, just to let you know tho if you are in the USA Count on it takeing up to 3 weeks to get your laser from Hong Kong. That is who I bought my laser from in I think it came by Boat then the Pony express .(lol) But it did work. Also you didn't crank the pot up to High or low did ya ?Cause if you did that will cause probs also.I run mine at about 3.8 to 3.6

Do you know anyone else with a samsung drive in there 360?

If you do you can swap the mainboard of the drives and test using there laser. Can 100% confirm this works with two ms28s anyways, not sure about swapping a ms25 and a 28.

comming soon:

You really should get a digital multi-meter the very littlest move Changes it alot. And I don't know of the top of my head which way does what,But they are a pain sometimes to tune in.Also when you get the new laser make sure you get all the soder spot off or it won't work either,I ran into that problem had to use a big mag glass to see were it was still bridged.

When it is loud Is it when you have the case off cause it will be.As for the grease, Im sure if you lightly coverd it that it wouldnt hurt nothing but id say chances are its fine.Glad to see you got it working anyhow.

When you say "Twist it..." I assume you are talking about the POT setting. This isn't 2006, no need to mess with that.
