After doing some research for the past few days I think I understand what I need to do in order to mod my Wii, but I wanted to make sure before I started buying things. I bought my wii a few days ago so its most likely D2C2. Also, since I'm terrible at soldering, I was going to to with this chip:
I also have to pick up an Lg drive from somewhere. Once all this is done, I just follow the steps for backing up whatever games I purchase? It seems pretty simple so I just wanted to make sure I understood everything.
Also, I wanted to make sure that the chip doesn't require any soldering at all and that it was for a reasonable price and from a respectable dealer.
Well you picked the right chip. No soldering required and it comes with the triwing screwdriver. The price is a little high but isnt too bad. I dont know too much about the dealer. I have heard of them but dont know anyone who's ordered from them before.
And good luck getting the proper LG drive. I picked mine up ages ago before everyone started buying them up. They're pretty hard to come by now.
Any decent Burner can burn Wii games. You only really need the 4 LG models if you want to read them in your drive. Which is not necessary if you take the proper precautions. Use good discs, don't use Nero. Use IMGBurn. DVD-R Seem to work well.
Not to confuse you, but I've burned with Nero on DVD+R with no issues. The process that works for you may be different (just look at the 100+ pages of the SSBB thread!) My only suggestion would be to stay away from cheap media, and make sure you read up on "brick blocking", so you don't brick your system if you plan on playing imports.
Thanks for the help. I ordered the chip and already received a 8161B drive. Ill try to backup my Wii Sports to see if its working and make sure everything goes okay.
thanks for the hint about imports also, but I don't think i plan on playing those.
