I realize this is a very dated chip. To make a long story short, I bought the chip and the PStwo (a new v12) something like two years ago, and never had the opportunity to install it until now. Now that I'm trying to actually install it, I see the DMS series and their forums are long dead, and there's little to no information around for my chip anymore. When I bought it, it was one of the top chips on the market. Anyway...

I am hoping there are people here who are familiar enough with the DMS4 Pro or PStwo modding in general to help me figure out what's wrong.

So I've installed the chip according to the diagrams, and I believe it's a good install. The PStwo acknowledges that the chip is there- I can hold Square or L1 during boot to make it disable the chip (displayed as a message on screen), or Triangle to boot DEV.olution mode, DMS' method of reading ELFs from a memory card, so it seems to me that the chip install should be good. Retail PS2 and PS1 games run in the system as normal.

But backups of either PS2 or PS1 titles only bring me to the red screen of death. I have tried a very wide variety of PS1 backups which I know to be properly burned, as they will run in a modded PS1 or on an emulator. They all go directly to RSOD on the modded PS2 however, as does the one PS2 backup I've tried (which I also believe to be properly created, though I have no means of verifying it).

Something else is strange; everytime I turn the PStwo on the first time, I hear it access the disc for a moment, but it doesn't display anything to the screen (no signal), and after a moment it stops reading. This is true of all discs I have put in the machine, retail or backup, or even when starting it empty. If I then reset the system, it acts normally, and that's how I've been doing my testing, but the fact that the system doesn't display unless I reboot it is very strange, and I've not found mention of anything similar anywhere online. Is that considered the Black Screen? If so, what does it mean, and why am I able to get by it by reseting the console?

I have not updated the bios to the latest version of Toxic, but it is my understanding that there should be a bios of some sort loaded already anyway, and the chip should be able to function even before I load Toxic. Am I wrong?

Does anybody have any helpful advice for any of this? Am I simply wrong in assuming my mod chip is installed properly? Do I need to load Toxic before the chip will run backups? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want to make this chip and system work rather than going to spend ~$200 for brand new ones. Thanks in advance.

As it happens, I'm in a similar boat as you. I bought the DMS4 Pro several months ago but had issues with the install. I started to work on it again this evening, but now I'm having a hard time finding the info I need.

Can someone assist with a link to the last version of firmware/OS Toxic released? I assumed the firmware was already installed, but now I can't confirm it.

Thanks,
TL

te black screen issue...sounds like something with your install. Make sure no wre is being pinched when everything is put back together. Another thing is that DMSPro on most slim is pointless unless you ahve some IDE HDD attachment V12/13. Another thing i must say is use a laser fix on V12.

ALso ToxicOS/Bios is NOT loaded on the chip, because the chip is blank, there is no illegal code on it. You will ahve to find ToxicOS (DMS Pro) or ToxicBios (Lite, or Pro [although it would be dumb, and waste of money]).

TeamToxic Website: (website dead for quite some time)
http://www.teamtoxic.com.cn/

Another website to download it is:
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=dms4.html

Remember to burn backups on good quality dvds, like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

i seem to be getting the same black screen problem only a bit different from yours. When i press the reset button it turns green and the console makes some sound but the disc doesnt spin and my tv doesn't seem to get a signal from the ps2. This happens everytime the game freezes and i have to reset the ps2 (a problem which i am trying to solve). i posted a thread about my prob a week ago but no one replied!
