I am encoded an AVI file to MPEG2. The file played perfect until the last ten minutes (the file is 2hrs. long)where the video just froze and the audio continued. Does anyone have any advice as to how i can solve this problem. I would really like to use this program because it encodes really fast (9o min. file in 110 min.)

Thanx in advance

So is the Problem when you watch the File on your PC or on your DVD Player...If it is on your PC then the Problem is probably with the AVI file ,Especially if it is a DivX or XviD file as these Files are easilly corrupted...You can try a few Things ,You can Run the AVI file through a program Like "DivX Fix" or "DivX Anti-Freeze" which is supposed to fix Frozen Frames...You can also Run the File through "Virtual-Dub" and Scan for errors and Make a Copy of the File and encode the Copied file with Mainconcept.....Cheers

Hmmm im having a similar problem.

Converting an AVI.

Scan with VirtualDub, with no errors found.

Processedd through MainConcepts Mpeg converter and the video freezes about an hour and half through a 2 hour film, with the audio continuing fine.

Ran the AVI through Divx Fix, with no problems or errors found.

Very Weird.

I tried cutting out a few frames (and chopped it to keyframes avoiding any future audio sync probs) but still didnt rectify it.

I may try again, but chop out a bigger chunk of the AVI, maybe that will work.

Anyone else able to help?
Info would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can allways tyr Frameserveing the file from V-Dub to Mainconceot encoder this usually works with troublesome files, If you want me to explain how to frame serve useing V-Dub let me know...Cheers

Yes please!

Ive tried using Virtual DUb to do this, using another forums guide.

Unfortunately it gave me a quartz.dll error as soon as i started frame serving from MainConcept.

Tried it with TMPEG Encoder too, but no joy.

Would it be because I didnt seperate the video from audio before frame serving?

Hi, Frameserveing Useing Virtual-Dub is fairly easy and usually works with Troublesome Files..
#1) First go into your V-Dub folder and Run the "Auxsetup.exe" file and then click "Install handler" and then click "OK" and then close the Auxsetup.exe window...
#2)Now run Virtual-Dub and go to "File" to "open" and Navigate to your AVI file and load it into Virtual-Dub"..
#3)Now go to "File" to "Start Frameserver" and then click "Start" and then Give the Frameserver File a Name but with a ".vdr" extention so name it something like "Movie file.vdr"...
#4) Now Run the MainConcept Encoder and go to "options" to "Import Modules" and Highlight the "DirectShow Import" module and then click the "Disable" Button..Now you can loase the Import modules window...
#4) now You can Load the "Movie File.vdr" file into MainConcept encoder and encode it to whatever Mpeg format you choose...

Well I hope this works for you ,You can also do this with TMPGEnc but you have to disable the "Direct show File Reader" in the "Vfapi Plugins" simular to what we had to do in MainConcept to get it to accept Frameserver files.....Cheers

Thanks a lot Minion, will give that a try tonight.

Last time I tried that guide with MC I didnt disble that option, so maybe thats where I was going wrong.

Would it help if I split the video and audio in the first place(using vdub), and frameserve a silent version of the AVI through MC??

Thanks for your feedback. This forum is ace!

Need more help!!

Right this is what I did:

1. Made a uncompressed wav file from the AVI in VirtualDub.
2. Made a silent AVI in VirtualDub (using source compression).
3. Frameserved the silent AVI to MC, with the directshow option turned off.
4. Put in the wav as the sound source.
5. Made the MPEG 2 settings as PAL 720 x 576, Progresive Scan.
6. Clicked ok to convert.
7. All seemed well.

8 Put the mpv file into TMPEG author, and all the video has come out solid green, throughout the film. Sound seems ok, but cant tell if its sync'd

Arrrgh! Help!

:(

OK...Did you make sure you Disabled the "Direct show" import Module in mainConcept?? Because I have had the very same Effect before when I forgot to Disable the Direct show Import Module, But if you didn"t forget then i do not know what to say accept you can try to frameserve with TMPGEnc instead, Or you can PM me with your E-mail address and I can send you a copy of the encoder that I use to encode when Frameserveing from V-Dub that allways works.....Cheers

Because you can play a video file with audio doesn"t mean that the encoder can read the audio file...You should allways either extract the audio from the AVI file to wav format and use the wav file as the audio source in your encoder or decompress the audio in the AVI file first before encodeing because encoders Like TMPGEnc do not support all audio formats..You can use Virtual-Dub to extract the audio or if you PM me with your e-mail I can send you a Little tool that will decompress the audio in your AVI file....Cheers
