Is the Sony DAV-DZ 100 a multi regional DVD player

Can anyone answear this question. IS the Sony DAV-DZ100 a multi regional region free DVD player? The story is this: A couple of weeks ago I ordered this box set that some guy puts onto discs and then sells them on the internet and when the crappy MEMOREX discs that he used did not work on my LG DVD 5083 player I tried them on my dads Sony player and when they worked I was allowed to borrow the player so I could watch them in my room. So I rigged it up started disc and when no sound came out I thought Oh no dont tell me the discs have no sound. So I grabbed my REGION 1 FANTASTIC FOUR 1994 cartoon series (legitimally released by Buena Vista) disc put it in and a message came up on screen saying "Disc could not be read because of disc regionalisation limitations" (or something like that) and I went what?? so I returned the player back to my mum. I then went and got got a disc from my Dukes Of Hazzard season 4 REGION 1 box set. So with my mum watching me I stuck in the Dukes disc and it played then I stuck in the FF disc and it wouldn't play! My mum thouht it was because it was a blank disc so I stuck it in my de-regionalised (I had to buy a disc to de-regionalise it) LG player which I had given my mum incase she wanted to watch any discs and it worked.

So tell me what is going on? Have they changed the way they regionalise discs these days? Both box sets were bought from Amazon.com US so how come the Dukes disc works but the FF disc did not? When my mum bought it she was told by the sales man it was multi-regional.

Also is it possible to watch discs on this player without having to use the surround sound speakers?

I live in the United Kingdom and I have saved a fortune buying discs from the US.
