Can you transfer saves/profile from harddrive to 64mb dongle

I have an old xbox 360 that can't access my 20gb harddrive anymore because I stupidly plugged in the harddrive while my Xbox was turned on. Now all my old saves can't be accessed on this flashed xbox 360.
However, I like to buy a dongle to transfer my saves from my new xbox 360 (nonflashed)to the old one using the 64mb card. Is that possible and is it the only way to transfer old saves?

I assume the old hardrive is dead.

Yeah you can, you just need to load and save from the dongle everytime.
