gba-gc cable link help...

i have the pelican gba-gc cable link along with pokemon FR,emerald and ruby with pokemon xd gale of darkness, i've beaten XD, fulfilled FR network machine to trade to r/s/e and when i go to trade i plug in the cable link with the gba and try to trade and all i get from the gba side is "please wait....press b to cancel" is there something i'm not doing right any help is greatly appreciated
