hi guys,

i am not sure if this has been covered here or not.

I am right in assuming that u need to update the console via the game disc to play certain games.
So what would be the point in using wii brick blocker to take out the update.

am i right in thinking that u only need to do this if you are playing out of region backups?

Right. You only need to brickblock out of region games because if one of them tried to update your wii it could brick the console. Updates from the same region are fine.

The way it works is like this:

Say your console is a US console at firmware 3.2U and you want to play a game that requires 3.2. The game dosent care if its 3.2U or 3.2P or 3.2J, just so long as some version of firmware 3.2 is installed it will work. For the console though, 3.2U is required and any other firmware will brick or semi-brick it.

The trick though is that when the game checks for 3.2 it looks for the region that it thinks should exist on the wii. So even if you were already at 3.2U and go to play a japanese import game it will look for firmware 3.2J and, not seeing it, will install it and brick the console.

So what you do is brickblock that iso to remove the update. The game dosent check for firmware version anymore and just runs. And since you have some version of firmware 3.2 it works. If you were still at 3.1U then it wouldnt work of course.
