nero start smart automatic pop up doesn't work and the programs don't open

I had installed Nero 6 from a CD Rom I have received with an external DVD burner I bought two years ago. After I had some problems with the system and a friend reinstalled windows for me, it stopped working, so I reinstalled it from the Nero cd. But still it doesn?t work, meaning the icon appears on the desktop and I can open the Nero start smart menu, where you can choose if you like to burn an audio or mp3 cd or what not. Normally you click on what you want to do and the window with the wished program opens. But this just doesn?t happen, after choosing one of the options, the start smart window disappears and nothing happens! I don?t know why or what to do and haven?t found help in the Nero help files neither. Looking in the window explorer it should all be installed?.
Is there another way to opne the program?
If anyone had a similar problem or knows what to do I would be very glad to receive an answer. Thank you for any help

Sorry I can't offer any help but I do have the same problem myself. Actually, I don't even have the systray icon as I think I turned it off in msconfig; but I still used to be able to manually start "startsmart."

i would try useing the clean tool from nero for your version then locate either here or by google the download version of nero
v6.0.0.18

The uninstall and reinstall got Startsmart working again for me (Nero 7 Ultimate). I don't know if it will work for Beroots with his Nero 6 though. I blame some of those performance "enhancers" and Registry "Cleaners" for this kind of stuff. Nero 7 is not a quick program to uninstall and reinstall either. It spoils a half hour for sure. I know the program worked well at first, so I didn't bother with the Nero Clean utility for now. I could add that I didn't really need "Smartstart." I generally only need either Nero Vision o Nero Express or Nero Burning ROM and I could load them anyway. Actually what I am trying to do now is to create a bootable DVD. I thought that this was going to be right there on Smartstart as a starting option, but I guess I'm going to have to do some more searching within the different menus for how to do this. I imagine all that Startsmart does is load the Burning ROM program anyway. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for your answers guys. I did allready try to reinstall it from the CD but it didn't help, I will try to download the new version and see if that helps....
Where do I find this clean tool?
How do I start the programs without the start smart? archp you mentioned not using the start smart but still opening the burning rom, how?

sorry rotary I saw your link to the clean tool now! I downloaded it and will try to uninstall the 6 version now. But you didn't mean me when you mentioned to use 6 and 7 clean tool ,no?

if you had v6 loaded previously then yes use the v6 clean tool aswell
