I have a Sony 36" XBR and it seems to play DTS but not Dolby (I get no sound when I select Dolby in audio feature). Just check on your TV to make sure which feature works.
You can either or if wanted put both on there. But note that DTS sound is nearly doubled the size of DD5.1. With both sounds it will take up alot fo space. I have the DTS sound on Xmen2 and my parents DVD player didnt have sound. Found out that their DVD player doesnt decode DTS. things to look for when backing up dvds
Yes, the main factor to think about is whether or not your DVD player can decode the DTS soundtrack. I basically stick with the AC3 DD 6ch as very few people have the equipment to utilise the DTS. Fortunately, I do with my THX Marantz system and Monitor Audio speakers, howver, with a 60" screen, i need to rely on quality of image, rather than output of audio, even with a De-Interlacer/Scaler.
Doh! I'm a retard. Yes, look at your DVD player, not your TV. Just that I always notice the DTS symbol on my TV. But my Sony DVD player won't play Dolby, bonly DTS, which freaks me out sometimes because I get no sound on my ripped DVDs until I switch to DTS.
if you ar backing up a dvd with option of dts or dd, always keep the dd, as dts takes up more space on you dvd-r. but personally if you prefer dts, forget backing it up altogether and watch off the original.
i personally prefer dts over dd, testing difference yes dts was certainly louder but dd sounded flat and too much bass, when dts sounder more crisp and cleaner as if the bass was not muffling the sound (don't know if you understand what i mean?)
With the newer DTS Neo 6 and Dolby Digital EX, noth are equally as good. DTS files are usually much larger though, so for backing up purposes, it might be better to store the lower file size.
