Hey I'm new here and even newer on the whole burning back-ups scene.

I (very) recently found out that you could convert AVIs to DVD. I followed this guide:

I followed every step of the guide and I burned it with imgburn. when i put it in my DVD player, I was excited that it started playing but then I realized that the sound it FASTER than the video. I wanna know if theres an easy to fix this without getting complicated like getting another program just for audio or something like that.

I really appreciate the help.

I'm not clear if the audio is out of sync or sounds speeded up, but if the source (AVI) file was ok on the PC, then the DVD disk should play back OK on the PC and the standalone player.

Try using DVD Flick to convert the AVI to DVD format.
The short guide and the software are here.

Make sure that the project settings reflect your video (TV);NTSC for North America, PAL for the rest of the world.
DVD Flick has burning software included - it's actually IMGBurn so set the burning speed at 4x in DVD Flick and you should have no problem.

Not necessarily corrupt, let's say different. Most AVI's that folks refer to are usually Xvids or Divx files. They are meant to be the last in the chain. They usually come from DVDs.
