The thread you started "Please please help me (Win Xp)", I thought the way they explained there put "only" the movie on a blank dvd. I followed the instructions there and it came out that way. No menus or anything..popped dvd in and movie started playing. *shrug* I am a noobie to all of this still but it seems to works for me.

I have an idea of what to do and I think it will work. Since I am new and am not sure it will work I'll reply again when I try it myself then come back. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ok I have it working but I am not happy with the split...I would like most of the movie on the FIRST DVD...Is there a way to calculate the split size?

I tried to get the splitting to work myself but could not get the second DVD part to work. After stripping the DVD to just the movie, it condensed the movie VOB size a lot, from like almost 8gb to almost 6gb, which is still too much for a dvd-r. So I opened VTS_0x_0.IFO, and split at chapter 24, had total of 40 chapters. After it was done splitting the DVD to the 2 dir I made I noticed it did not create VIDEO_TS.IFO file in either dir. A guide said to "put" them in yourself. So I copied/pasted the ones from the first stripping to get only the movie. Opened them up in IfoEdit and changed the first DVD to 23 chapters and second DVD to 17 chapters. Then tested using DVD Play in IfoEdit and the first dvd played but the 2nd one would not. I think its because the chapters are messed up on the 2nd DVD. I think its looking for the first chapter when the first chapter is actually chapter 24 from my split. I ran out of time trying to figure it out, was time for me to head into work.

How did you get it to work? Both of you DVD's would play? Any help you can give would help another frustrated newbie.

Newbie alert!Listening to me might be a bad idea *shrug*
You want to put most of the movie on the first DVD... I'm not sure how you split the DVD, but if you stripped your DVD to only contain the movie before you tried to split it, you should have at least 4 VOB files since they are split into 1GB size files (if you dont have 4 vob files then you shouldn't need to split your DVD to begin with). The limit is 4.3gb total before you need to split your DVD. I would think you can fit 4 full VOB files on the first DVD. So I would play the 5th VOB file (I use WinDVD or HeroDVD) and kinda see where its at in the movie. Then open the VIDEO_TS.IFO, click DVD Play and skip to later chapters and find the same area the 5th VOB file started at. Then you can pick that chapter to split. I don't know if there is a more easier accurate way to find out. I used this method to try and put the same size on both DVD's and when I did it they were close in size.

I finally had time to sit down and figure it out. Everything works great now. About you wanting to calculate the split size, I think I remember seeing someone mention that IfoEdit might have that feature soon.

Take it easy.

Ok I have some questions I am also new to this and all I can seem to do is rip the dvd's using smart ripper 2.41 then after that I am lost. Do I need to delete some of the files to get it on to dvd, or should I split it. And if so how do I do that.. I just really don't know anything about this and don't know what my NEXT step should be after ripping.. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it greatly..
