Rippers/Decrypters: These tools are listed in no particular order, but concerning freeware vs. payware they are listed in my preference of usefulness, effectiveness and also popularity on this forum. This is just my opinion and the points of efficiency and effectiveness should be based on your personal beliefs so take it for what it's worth.

DVDFab HD Decrypter (free) - http://dvdfab.com/free.htm

Quote:
DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Platinum. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying. It also comes with full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support (Removes AACS).

AnyDVD ($$$) - http://www.slysoft.com/en/

AnyDVD HD ($$$) - http://www.slysoft.com/en/
Quote:
AnyDVD HD comes with same functionality as AnyDVD, but with full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support and many more additional features.

RipIt4Me (free) - http://www.google.com
Quote:
RipIt4Me is a freeware utility that helps you backup your copy protected DVDs. Recently released DVDs are now very often equipped with stronger copy protections - such as ARccOS and RipGuard DVD. Programs like DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter cannot handle these types of discs. RipIt4Me is fully automated and the wizard will guide you through all the necessary steps involved. If you prefer, there is also a true "1-Click" mode that will perform all the involved steps automatically for you. Development stopped April 1 2007.

DVD Region+CSS Free ($$$) - http://www.dvdidle.com/download.htm
Quote:
DVD Region+CSS Free and DVDIdle allows you to watch and copy DVD from any region on all DVD drives. It also removes DVD encryption. DVDIdle, same features as DVD Region Free but it also extend the lifetime of your DVD drive by up to 800 percent by using Smart Read-ahead Cache.

DVD Decrypter (free) - http://www.google.com
Quote:
One of the best DVDDecrypter tool, it enables you to decrypt and copy DVDs to your HD. Demultiplex DVD to separate audio, video and subtitle streams. It can also make DVD images and burn DVD and CD images. No longer developed, use DVDFab Decrypter or AnyDVD if you get any ripping problems.
DVD43 (free) - http://www.dvd43.com/

Quote:
DVD43Free is a small, free tool that integrates into Windows XP/2000 and overrides DVD-Video copy-protection and DVD Region limitations.

Encoders:

DVD Rebuilder (free) - http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php?nam...download&cid=12
Quote:
DVD Rebuilder is a free tool that allows to shrink a DVD movie into a single DVDR disc, using CCE, CCE Basic, ReJig or QuEnc as an external encoder.

When combined with any version of CCE, the software produces far better video quality than any of the fast one-click tools. However, it is reminded that the software is still in beta phase and can cause problems.

DVD Rebuilder Pro ($$$) - http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php?nam...download&cid=12
Quote:
The highest quality backup method available!!!
Added features and functionality over the free version.

CCE SP ($$$) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...aft_encoder.cfm
Quote:
Cinema Craft Encoder SP allows you to directly encode AVI, QuickTime and DV files into DVD or SVCD compliant MPEG-2 streams, or VCD MPEG-1 streams.

CCE is one of the fastest encoders on the market, in addition to which it provides the best quality, too -- you wouldn't expect any less from a software with a price tag of $2,000.00.

This is the trial version. It is limited in the following ways:
1. A logo will be inserted in the encoded stream.
2. Encoder control list cannot be saved or loaded.
3. Framewise setting is not available for Quality setting.

CCE Basic ($$$) - http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/basic.html
Quote:
Cinema Craft Encoder allows you to directly encode AVI, QuickTime and DV files into DVD or SVCD compliant MPEG-2 streams, or VCD MPEG-1 streams.

CCE is one of the fastest encoders on the market, in addition to which it provides the best quality, too. The basic version is somewhat more limited than the SP version, but is also $1900 cheaper.

This is a trial version of the software, and it has the following limitations:
1. A logo will be inserted in the encoded stream.
2. MPEG files longer than 3 minutes cannot be created.
3. This program expires after 30 days from installation date.
CCE SP2 ($$$$) - http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/sp2.html

Quote:
CCE-SP2 allows you to directly Encode AVI, QuickTime and DV files
into DVD compliant high-quality MPEG-2 streams.
CCE-SP2 is the ideal tool for creating MPEG-2 streams
for non-liner video editors, 3DCG animators, and game creators.

Procoder ($$$) - http://www.canopus.us/us/products/procoder2/pm_procoder2.asp
Quote:
Grass Valley ProCoder 3 software combines speed and flexibility into a streamlined video conversion tool for professionals. Widely acknowledged as the leading software transcoder, ProCoder 3 features extensive input/output options, advanced filtering, batch processing and an easy-to-use interface.

Whether encoding MPEG video for DVD production, producing Windows Media for streaming or transcoding between NTSC and PAL, ProCoder 3 makes video format conversion quick and easy. Encode a single source to multiple targets simultaneously, run multiple conversion jobs back-to-back in batch mode, or use drag-and-drop preset icons to start conversion with a single click.

HC Encoder (free) - http://hcencoder.bitburners.com/
Quote:
HC is a simple to use MPEG2 video encoder and is meant for creating MPEG2 video streams with a strong focus on DVD-compliancy. Input can be a d2v project or input using Avisynth. HC expects as input YUV-planes (YV12 color space 4:2:0). During the encoding process there are no color plane conversions, the encoder keeps the color planes in YV12 color space.

There's no fancy GUI, the input is controlled by a serie of commands in the file HC.ini. The encoder runs in a command prompt window, during the encoding process information is written in the command window.

Output is a regular m2v file which can be used directly in your favourite authoring program.
AutoQMatEnc(free) - http://www.autoqmatenc.com/
Quote:

# Use same ECL Files than CCE SP Trial
# Read any AVS script by using directly avisynth.dll
# Built-In advanced QMatOp technology - Activated by adding adjust_q_matrix=1 in ECL or CCEAQM=1 in the REBUILDER.INI file for DVDRB users. For details about QMatOp go to the forums.
# MultiPass enabled - Above 4 passes is close from useless but can be performed
# Part of CCE Simple Settings (Animation/CG/Natural) taken into account : Recomended for Anime (Aniamtion) and old movies (Natural)
# QMatOp phase not reprocessed but detected if encode cancelled once finished.
# Pass 1 no reprocessed if already done.
# Compatible with RB-Farm when used with DVDRB. (Thank you Danpos for finding/testing it!!!)
# MPEG2 Encoder using a part of libavcodec : libavcodec is released under the LPGP.

Misc. Tools:

DVD Shrink with Imgburn - http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/DVD_Shrink_3_2_b_w_IB.zip

FixVTS (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...ools/fixvts.cfm
Quote:
FixVTS is a very tiny tool that allows you to adjust your DVD files into better DVD compliance, so they can be opened in DVDShrink or VobBlanker. FixVTS does a similar job as what's called an IFOEdit Mock Strip, but only adjust as little information as possible in the VOB and IFO files to allow it to open in a other appication while keeping the DVD as original as possible.

You would use FixVTS if you messed up your DVD, for example by applying the wrong tool, or aborting in the middle of some processing, and the result can no longer be used. Another good use is for DVDs that have been authored with deliberate "errors" in the IFO or VOB files, such that they still play on your player, but won't open in DVD editing tools such as DVDShrink, VobBlanker and others.

VobBlanker (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_.../vobblanker.cfm
Quote:
VobBlanker is a tool that is able to blank, replace, cut and strip VTS video titles. It has some special features like reducing to still (with or without audio) the complete PGCs or single Cells.

VobBlanker needs a unencrypted backup of the DVD to be processed, then it uses the info stored in the IFOs to access the Cells inside the VOBs. When the VIDEO_TS.IFO file is selected, VobBlanker reads automatically all the IFOs in the same folder and stores all the required information into memory. Then you can configure how the DVD is going to be processed, which PGCs are going to be blanked, etc.

PGCEdit (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...ols/pgcedit.cfm
Quote:
PgcEdit is a DVD IFO editor designed to allow the modification of the navigation commands and parameters of an already authored DVD structure. It is designed to supplement IfoEdit.

IFOEdit (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...ols/ifoedit.cfm
Quote:
This is one of the must-have tools for all the guys who wish to backup their DVD movies to DVD-R or DVD+RW discs. IFOEdit allows users to parse VOB files, remove and add video/audio/subtitle streams to VOBs, create new IFO files, create DVD images and burn DVD-Rs. All within one little tool. Versions since 0.93 now also include world's first free DVD authoring suite that supports AC3 audio, subtitles and much, much more.

Please note that this version of IFOEdit doesn't work perfectly with Windows XP, so it is strongly recommended to use it with Win2k instead.
DVDReMake Pro ($$$) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...s/dvdremake.cfm
Quote:
DvdReMake is a DVD editor. With DvdReMake you can easily make a customized backup of your DVD disk or reauthor your disk to add features your authoring software does not support.

DvdReMake makes difficult things look easy. Ever wanted to understand what is on your disk and have a full control of the backup? Then this program is for you, try importing disk into DvdReMake and see for yourself.

DvdReMake has features that make it a very handy tool for editing dvds or making DVD backup:

·Process DVDs with seamless playback and multiple angles
·Remove unwanted buttons from either still or motion menus
·Re-link menu buttons
·Change DVD navigation
·Delete menus for selected language
·Cut out credits or embedded studio logos
·Replace material on the DVD with your own
·Remove warning/rating screens
·Remove menu transitions
·Actually, remove any scene from the disk. No more splitting disks - have what you like on your disk (movie or extra, or even part of this and part of that) with the original menu by simply removing what you don't want to see on the disk.

This demo version is limited and does not have the capability of exporting edited DVD. You can still test all the features of the software and decide if it suits your needs.

I was actually going to go back through the forums and hunt up threads for the past movies that people had difficulty with, but all the Saw's and Lords of Dogtown's etc. should be old news by now and easily defeated simply by making sure the current software is up to date. So I'll just add links to movies from here forward. :)

Thanks to everyone else.

I think you have the term for "transcoder" and "encoder" tools messed up in your posts. You're missing QuEnc and AutoQMatEnc.

hmm, DvdReMake (Pro) does not qualify to be in your list!?
