are you on 3.51 or 3.51m33

if on 3.51m33 then you will need to update to 3.52m33-4 then you8 can update to 3.71m33 or higher

if 3.51 then you will need to use pandoras battery to install cfw

to check what your firmware is go to settings -> system settings -> system information
then it should say your system version which will be 3.51 or 3.51m33

The battery they refer to is called a Pandora Battery/Datel Tool battery. They Both load the psp into a service mode wich allows you to boot files from the memory stick wich they call a MMS or magic memory stick. this will let you install custom firmware (CFW) or upgrade/downgrade official or custom firmware.

you will need a pandora or tool battery & a 512mb-4gb pro duo memory card. 512mb would be best.

also do you have a slim or a phat psp?

i believe you can just upgrade to 3.71 M33-2 using this guide i would wait for a more experienced psp modder to confirm first

there is no other way sorry so if you have god soldering skills you can hardmod your battery or you can order a tool pattery the 1gb card should be fine for a mms

from the little what i read i understood that i need 2 have 2 battery..1 is for the normal use and another one for modding or booting whatever .the other thing is that do i require 2 mem card like the battery or in 1 i can work it out by doin the procedure and the using it for storing games and music etc.

you only need 1 memory card like you make it into a mms and then you can format it later nd just use it as a normal card

it would be a god idea to have an extra memory card and then the extra pandora/datel battery

but its not really needed .

nope after pandoras battery was released no one boverd making a downgrader because pandoras worked on any fw. although it sounds a hassel its a lot simpler.

1gb is perfect for making a mms.

if you have vista your in trouble but xp is perfect

id advise buy a datel tool battery as its ready made and very cheap

they sell a combo with a fake 2gb card wich is "supposed to work as a MMS(you still have to make it yourself) but im not to your better off buying a official sony/sandisk card but heres links to both
